High school basketball district tournaments started last night. The school my kids attend did not fare well. The girls team lost by 82 points. Boys lost by 35.

Some context, and I have no idea why it is done this way in KY, the winning girls team has a high school enrollment of about 850. My kids' school has a K-12 enrollment of about 225.
The boys opponent has a high school enrollment of about 1000.
Not exactly a level playing field.

The worst beatdown was by the girls of the largest high school around against the second smallest. 91-7 was the final in that one. Demoralizing for sure. How does a coach send his players out there and try and encourage them with that kind of a beatdown going on? I am sure the winners were playing their bench for most of, if not all, the second half. And when it gets out of hand (i think a 30 point lead) they run the clock continuously.

Problem is you got 256 teams in a no classification tournament. Honestly, you can cut that down to 64. Until then, yeah, youll have beatdowns like that...

It was a tough loss last night, but there's a reason home teams win 70% of the time. We still have three regular season games and the SEC tournament to get right before the madness.
