Random, Thoughts, X,XXIV

My oldest son, who turned 23 yesterday, has Autism Spectrum Disorder. We don’t let him make excuses for behavior either. He’s snarky, and honest to a fault though. So, you can’t ask him questions unless you want his brutal opinion or observation. 🤣🤣🤣 Maybe that’s why he can’t get or keep a job… 🤷🏻‍♀️ We’re working on it…

I haven't really kept up on everything in the forum, I do have a brother in law that reminds me a lot of Forrest Gump because he is very much like him, he is loyal to the end and mature in a lot of ways
but then some ways not so mature but we always loved him just the way he is and accepted his limitations, so he actually taught me to appreciate the little things.
My son is flamingly Asperger’s. Brilliant, creative, depressed, and under-whateveringly society thinks bright people should do with their lives. He will talk your ear off about anything and everything including WWII Axis aircraft, Soviet weaponry, Gundam (?) figures, cats, Cthulhu (sp?), music, politics, and bad beer. But he is fantastically loyal to friends and family, he will never, ever say hurtful things about others (well, except for political a-holes, and we all do that, or ought to), and he doesn’t demand that we listen to whining.

We support him where he is, while wishing and hoping that he can maybe continue to get more balance in his life, and like you, we love him as he is and have learned to appreciate the little things.

Oh yes; yes, yes, yes. Aspie’s are the most honest people on earth, even when (especially when) you might not want them to be.

— happy birthday to your son!

Sure as long as I can get cell service. It's spotty at times.
Understandable, if you lose cell service, just respond when you can. Where did you start on Volnation? Most of us start in a different forum such as the FF. That’s where I got my start. Slice was the one that turned me loose in here. (Even though, I thought it was joe to begin with, but I’m old and forgetful and love that I can use that now). Now, your turn.

I wish I could remember too, but I’m guessing that it was also the FF first.

Football Forum then moved around to other areas.

Now to the hard. Why do you post the negative crap about yourself? You skip around and then lay an egg. I think you do it on purpose, maybe I’m wrong, maybe not (don’t think so). I’m not going to tell you how to fix yourself, you’ve had enough of that here. I’ll be even more direct with you, because that’s who I am. I don’t know how you found your way here nor do I care (I’ll have to answer for this part 😒). Have fun while you’re here chicka. I’ll leave you be.

Well when you've failed two suicide attempts over 25 years ago and you are on three different types of medications you struggle. I have been to therapists years ago and have been on two heart monitors. When you have no friends in real life it takes it's toll on your health mentally and physically. Plus being overweight and ugly doesn't help either. When you deal with people in the real world who are snobs it also takes it's toll on your health.

American medical insurance sucks for emotional disorders (“mental illness.”)

Were you ever able to have psychotherapy - “talk therapy”, cognitive behavioral therapy, etc. - or did they just give you pills and move on to the next patient?

Yes I did that but it seemed like all they were interested in was getting paid and moving on to the next patient.

Yeah, a lot of times you have to keep banging on doors and yelling (not literally!) until you find the right therapist, which by definition is hard to do when you are struggling. It’s worth trying again though, over and over.

… … …

A much milder version, but one I went through: 2 of my 3 kids are ADHD. So am I. Their meds (amphetamines and derivatives) couldn’t be auto-refilled; they had to be called in each month.

So… each month, each kid had to notice when his/her pill bottle was almost empty. Then each kid had to remember to let me know. Then I, the ADHD mom, had to remember to call their doctor to ask for a refill to be called in. Then I, the ADHD mom, had to remember to go pick it up.

Even at the time, I thought it was funny, but was crazy at the same time.

… … …

Do you have anyone willing to go to bat for you? Your regular doctor, maybe? Keep battering down the doors until you find a therapist you click with, even if - ESPECIALLY if - they tell you things that you maybe don’t want to hear.

You and I are on up there in years, but there’s no reason to not find some happiness in your remaining time on this planet.

Yes my regular doctor could probably help me. He did a good job at getting my meds adjusted last time. Plus when you have been rejected by so many women throughout my life it takes its toll on your health. Eventually you just say the heck with it and become a lifelong bachelor.

I started in the ff, and believe it or not, was super serious at first. Got in depth talking football, but we started sucking, Tiffany was going through chemo when I found Volnation, so it was like a mental break for me. Somehow I found the pub, and spent a lot of time in the night owls thread, that kinda brought out my crazy. I can't remember exactly how I ended up here, just checking out forums one night I think, but I remember reading some threads, thinking everyone was mental, and felt at home 🤣

Well, you know, one step at a time. You have to be able to love yourself, warts and all, before you can love anyone else or expect anyone else (women) to love you.

Maybe focus with help on that first step of loving yourself. “Loving” meaning seeing the good, acknowledging and working on the not-do-good, and remembering that nobody’s perfect.

I remember when Escape Goat told me that I belonged in the Zone and being struck with terror. 😲🤣

I started in the FF. Hated the Pruitt hire. Got called every name in the book by those mouth breathers in the FF. Funny how the guy that had an avatar of a slide coming out an elephant's ass nailed the Pruitt regime perfectly. Decided to move on to different threads where you weren't ostracized if you didn't have your head buried in Pruitt's cornbread scented jock.

And now you just bury your head in Male midget stripper's jocks!

I remember when you came on the scene. Avi is what got my notice, I figured you’d get buried in there. Glad you found your way out of the desert.

Although I still don’t know for sure which forum I started on, I do know that I originally was on the News-Sentinel Vols forum, back when it was free, 2008-09 or so.

Kind of at the same time, they started charging for it; PLUS the lack of moderation made it unpleasant and a general PITA, and so somehow (probably a link), I found VN and moved here.

And then, God help me, I found the Zone…

— Prosaically, I’m pretty sure that it was in the Grudenite days, and the Overwhelmingly Dreadful Seriousness of the FF crowd drove me to the cheerfully FU Zone.

Because I will put up with a lot (too lazy and cowardly to fight back), but I won’t accept being told to behave.

I hated the Beldar hire too - it was the most unenjoyable 3 years of Vols football & I was glad the basketball team was winners -- Funny how you never see those Beldar smoochers anymore
