If they don't go to college, electric power utilities offer some good paying jobs. Also, logistics are increasingly important with increasing online sales. Managing storage, distribution, and transport pays well. Getting there may require a few years at lower pay grades. Mobile network field jobs are unionized and pay fairly well. Railroads have some good paying jobs.
