Age is just a number. I just found out two weeks ago I have diabetes after all these years and am getting cataracts removed the first week of December. They gone have to work a lot harder if they want to get rid of me. Doctors told all my family last March I wasn’t going to survive with sepsis and am fighting lung cancer with immunotherapy. But as they say it’s just a step for a stepper.

I'm a member of Skydivers Over Sixty. I split logs with sledge & wedges. I dig out hoary old bushes with spade & mattock, recontour land, and lay rip rap by the ton. I tour on bicycles for fun. Whippersnappers would be hard pressed to keep up with me. Age? What y'all know 'bout age?

Well, I, umm... I watch Habitat for Humanity guys load up our old cabinetry and sinks and appliances into their truck, and I sit on the front porch bracing for the latest surprise from the builders!!

Termite damage (all old, as best as we can tell) was around this door frame where the kitchen door opened on to the unheated service porch (laundry.) It went on for another 10-12", but that was it. We checked downstairs in the basement, and the sill is a tiny bit compressed in this area, suggesting that the critters gnawed on that a bit as well. Most of the damaged wood on the main floor was being removed or replaced anyway, so no biggie. (When you own a 96-year-old house, you really learn the meaning of "remain calm and carry on.")

Knob and tube is being replaced where it's easily accessed, but the whole house won't be rewired simply to replace it, at least not at this point. It works fine, and we keep the insulation away from it. Initially the electrician is just moving the panel, which is inconveniently located on that one remaining wall. But I'm tired of having only one two-prong outlet per room, and there is NO switched lighting in several rooms, so we're going to have him work on that sort of thing in addition to the panel and kitchen/laundry/bath wiring and fixtures, assuming that we're not broke by then. Bwah hah hah

Hubby is an industrial electrician. He tries to avoid residential as much as he can. lol

We have Halloween coming up, with multiple streets closed and literally thousands of trick-or-treaters of all ages. By golly, I'm gonna have outlets on the front porch by then! We have lights and ghouls and glowing skulls and giant inflatable ghosts and Stuff, and there's only so much heavy-duty extension cord in this world.

Hoping to have a kitchen and downstairs bath by then to accommodate our dozen or so helpers, but I'm not optimistic...

At least you're stocked up on kitty litter for future generations. Or, you must have a significant herd of cats.

Costco run!

At our house, we have our cat (the Head Cat) and for some reason my younger daughter's cat (the Visiting-a-Bit-Too-Long Cat.) My mother's cat (le Chat Lunatique) is now thank the Lord staying with her in assisted living, and we keep that cat litter pipeline going.

The Head Cat and Visiting Cat are so horrified at the construction noise that they now hang out in the daytime on the front porch or under a bush somewhere and do their business outside, as nature intended, so we're not going through it very fast.

Heads up, y'all: all participants must be costumed AND be able to provide a reasonable explanation for what they are, because younger daughter whips out her law degree and interrogates those with lame costumes. Any too-cool-for-school tweens and teens should be aware that ripped shirts and some smudges on their faces ain't gonna get them any Snickers bars.
