During my childhood years, a local TV station had a Saturday movie matinee - a horror film which would be followed by comedy shorts. Kids would be scared by the likes of Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, and the wolfman, then made to laugh by the antics of Laurel & Hardy, the Three Stooges, and the like. Smart programming, the impact of which has stayed with me.
