Random, Thoughts, X,XXIV

WalMart is almost exclusively self-checkout now. The last time I was there the lady checking receipts at the exit was a little militant AND slow.
I didn't choose to participate in that nonsense, so I just skipped the exit line and left. I heard her saying "sir... SIR!!!!" as I kept walking and raised the receipt above my head, leaving the store.

Look. You can either trust me to do self-checkout or you can put your cashiers back in place like it used to be. I'm not interested in proving that I did your job for you anymore.

Signed,
All of us
Their prices are almost equal to Kroger now so I never go there anymore Hope that more people realize they no longer have low prices, I go to Kroger for better quality and close to the same price

That may be an IL thing. The Krogers here (in Memphis) are as bad as the Wal-Mart.

with high prices or poor quality ?

Kroger (non sale items) is 10-15% higher than Wal-Mart here. Service is just as bad. Quality isn't noticeably better on most items. There are some meats where Kroger has a quality advantage but its not across the board. Target has cut back on their groceries here. There's no Schnucks or Publix to provide direct competition to Kroger (all of the competition is low-end grocers or a super high end like Whole Foods)

They all pretty much suck, I would prefer Hy Vee, but driving there is a hassle in the Winter

Supposedly Hy Vee is to enter the Memphis market soon. Schnuck's was in the Memphis market for a while and Kroger updated their stores and cut prices then and essentially priced Schnuck's out of the market. Of course, that's been over 10 years and Kroger hasn't updated most of its stores since.

Also, anybody see the video of the cliff breaking and falling on those boats? Horrible, I don't want to post because it killed a couple of them, but it was unreal.

Those letters will remind you how much you received in advance Child Tax Credits in 2021 (i.e. those monthly checks some of you got in the later half of 2021). If you did not get the full amount of checks that you were entitled to during 2021, you should get a tax credit when you file your 2021 taxes this Spring. If you received more than you should have, then you will owe that amount when you file your 2021 taxes this Spring.

We did not qualify, we opted out once we received our first one, but we continued to get random checks throughout the second half of 2021. All the checks were different amounts (all small amounts though). We ended up cashing them knowing we'd have to pay it back when we filed our taxes.
