What if any home exercise equipment do you have?
- why did you choose that one?
- what level of fitness were you when you bought it?

I have a venerable (as in rust spots, but works just fine) Schwinn recumbent exercycle, and we are looking for a really basic strength machine to add. Trying to keep it $500 or less until we know if we will actually follow up with the thing, and then we might upgrade.

So far, I keep coming across the Bowflex PR-1000 and the Marcy MWM-990. Per the comments, the Bowflex is a PITA with continually twiddling with the accessories, changing cables, etc., while the Marcy has some major quality issues in terms of some coming out of the box obviously new while others look as it the parts had been in the orangutan pavilion at the zoo. And then there are the useless (to me) comments sneering that they won’t prep you for a bodybuilding contest, big whoop.

I tilt toward the Bowflex as it appears to be higher quality, and then I tilt toward the Marcy because we both prefer stacked weights equipment. Hubs is pretty strong through arms and chest plus legs, less so in core. I’m more like the tub of goo that David Letterman called an Atlanta pitcher once. Not really, but let’s just say that my muscles have a ton of potential for development.

Any shared experience would be very welcome!

I know you didn’t ask me but a month and a half ago I bought a total gym. Mainly because it is great rehab for shoulders and I have two replaced shoulders. In 3 weeks I lost 3 inches and 6 lbs and no more than 20 minutes every other day

That’s right, I remembered that someone had bought one! Which model did you get? (Pretty sure I asked you this first time around; sorry...)

I’ve always worked out so I have a full set of dumbbells. 2 lbs- 85 lbs. I’ve got and original bow flex that they have replaced the bands on twice. Not from quality issues. We’ve worn them out. I’ve been really happy with it. I have an elliptical runner. Having said that I am only doing yoga and the elliptical now. Been on that plan for the last year or so and I’m as strong at 50 as I’ve ever been.
hope that helps

I dont have anything atm.(soon) An elliptical is prob what I gravitate towards because of the low impact and good cardio. Bad knees make tread mill bottom of the list

Me too, that’s why I have the recumbent bike. Even the elliptical gets to me. (I have spinal arthritis as well as grumpy knees, so I have to keep my lumbar area relatively still when I can.)
