Not sure. Plein air means in the open air. So, not sure what other type it could be. It started in the late 1800's when they started putting paints in tubes. Artists escaped from their studios and enjoyed the freedom to roam outside and paint. Before then, they had to grind their own colors and couldn't/didn't transport them from the studio.There are 2 tpyes of plein air, correct? Impressionism and blah blah blah. My favorite is impressionism.
