True. Can also happen when other animals they grew up with die. My mom used to own 2 ferrets that like a week and half apart. Male and female that had been together for like 8 years.

Where the red fern grows comes to mind.

Aww sorry dude. I'll always remember my first dog. She was a siberian husky mix- had her from age 5 to age 13. My dad buried her in our backyard.

All of my dogs will always be buried at home. Doesn't feel right otherwise...

both of my first two dogs are buried in our backyard. Borgi and Shelly. My little 7 year old brother helped my step dad bury Borgi when he died. They said he took it like a man. Offered to go to the vet with my mom to help her since my step dad was still working, and then even got down in the grave to give him a hug and kiss goodbye. really tough kid for being 7

My dogs have all been the sweetest dogs. Animals are a direct reflection of owner. Still kills me to think of my last dog though. He had been missing for days and finally he dragged himself onto my porch. He had been shot in the leg and no telling how long he was trying to get home. So we took him to the vet and found out he had heart worms. We had to put it him down.
