You both described it the way I did, awkward and uncomfortable.

Most of the show, they get to know each other in the dark. Then at the end they get to see each other, but not at the same time. He see's her in the light, then she gets to see him, but neither can see the reactions of the other. Then they have to decide after the reveal if they want to actually go out on a date. It's kind of humiliating and shows how superficial most people really are.
