Bradford pears are notorious for splitting. I have three in my back yard and they haven't split yet and they are about 25 feet tall. Maybe I will get a royal empress weed tree when they split. The site I googled said they were hardwood but some are invasive, whatever that means.

Ya mine split right down the middle to the ground. Had to chop the whole thing down. My neighbor had the same thing happen. Really sucked because it was a beautiful tree right in the center of the backyard. Now I got nothing but two scrawny pines. One of which got hit by lightening last year.

Ours was given to us as a memory tree. Supposed to bloom flowers every spring and then the big leaves in the summer.
