They are saying this is the first bear-caused human fatality within the park in about 25 years. I thought there was one or more last year or the year before. Gotta go look. I might be thinking about a fringe area or somewhere around the Tetons.

When I was in Colorado there was a big black bear down west of Canon City that grabbed a few people one year. I'm somewhat surprised with the Yellowstone numbers, considering the amount of people.

That may have been it. The little town of West Yellowstone is only a stone's throw from the West entrance to the park. It's a neat little place.
yeah that's where my dad and my sister stayed when they went. went snowmobiling throughout yellowstone. can you even do that anymore? heard about them cutting it out.

The Grizz, in most cases, is going to stay out of people's way. They're like rattlesnakes in a way, make a lot of noise and they'll avoid human contact. The problem with this one was the man and wife surprised a female Grizz and her cubs. You know what happens then. I'll be buying some spray in the next few weeks as I might be headed up towards the West side of the Tetons to camp. It's out to the West of Driggs, if you know where that is. We camp in a primitive site in between where the Teton river forks. Sounds like a freight train this time of year. Read a local article warning that Grizz and other animals are coming lower for food right now.

Yeah, although they limited it a bit. Still 200 miles or so of trails open. West Yellowstone is probably the best place to stay for that.

The spray is the way to go, God forbid you need it, compared to a pistol, as an initial defense.

But, like you said, sing, hang a sleigh bell on your pack, just so you don't surprise one another.

Thanks. Not bad. His voice in the first one reminded me of Kris Kristofferson and later sounded a bit like Merle. Good words to the first tune and the second, as well. Doesn't seem like a polished, glitzy, showy type of country performer. I like that. The country that's a bit raw and from the heart stands a better chance with me. Thanks, again.

i'll be there doing this.

Read about those folks in National Geographic. Freaking crazy, those that free climb, especially.

And the show about the people protesting the ban on BASE jumping from El Capitan and the lady had a chute failure, no reserve. Irony.
