Didn't give me any inside info but I thought it was a good story.

I live in Kansas City and Tyler (his brother) came into my Crossfit gym. He was wearing Volunteer shorts so I struck up a convo with him.

I asked him if he was from TN he said no that he was from NC.

I asked him if he was a fan of the Vols and he said "Yea, I kind of have to be my brother plays for them", so then my interest was peaked, I asked him what his name was and he told me.
He was pretty surprised that I knew of him and was even a fan, I told him "Of course I'm a fan, and he has many more trust me", He's says "why!?", kind of like a little brother would do you know, so I said "there are a lot of guys out there who like big, physical kids with heart and Austin made some plays last year!"

Anyways, he said Austin said he likes his position coach (Lance Thompson) and that he expects to be the starting middle linebacker this year.

I didn't get a chance to ask him anything else but Tyler was a nice kid, he apparently plays for Wingate as a linebacker in the SAC conference and was on the 2nd team All-Conference last year. They appear to be a very nice well rounded family.

That crazy because Tyler was STRONG. He was deadlifting 450lbs at around 6 reps per set. Austin does appear to be much bigger, Tyler was only about 5'9".

Nice to see another Kansas City guy on here. My wife and I just bought a house on the Kansas side in Overland Park. Do you ever meet up with other UT fans in the area to watch games or anything? I was at the Music City Bowl this year sitting pretty much right in the middle of the students in the UT end zone. Loads of fun and I met another guy from KC while I was there.

Yep. I got together with the local fan club for the UT/Kentucky game at Coaches on 135th and Metcalf.

kcvols.com is the group I've met up with. Nice to know another local Vol.

My wife and I just moved to Overland Park in October. I have been going to the Buffalo Wild Wings to watch all the games. I tell my wife all the time I wish I was there a TN bar in KC, and of course it was right across the street the whole time. Is anybody going over there for the UCONN game on Sat?

Actually, I just noticed it was Coach's. I live at 147th and Metcalfe. Only quarter a mile away. lol

I visited KC last year on business and ate lunch at a sports bar that had more memorabilia than any I've ever seen. All sports. I was looking at the football helmets hanging from the ceiling and a guy started talking to me and come to find out he was the owner. He said his place had been ranked 9th or 10th in a sports illustrated article that ranked sports bars on memorabilia and at the time he had only 100. He said it pissed him off so he went out and found over 900 more....total of 1000+ helmets in there. So cool.

He asked me who I followed and when I said UT he took me straight to a couple of helmets and some other stuff. He said he was a personal friend of Dickey. Great experience.

That's because their family owns a high volume Toyota dealership. Their dad Mike is a really nice guy I've done some business with him.

We go to church right off Metcalf and live off of Switzer just south of 119th street. It's cool to finally see some fellow UT fans here in the Midwest.

I got on the KCVols website and sent Walter an email. He added me to the mailing list and talked about the group. Sounds exciting. It will be much better watching the games with some other fans. I'll be at Coach's on Saturday for the UCONN game. Go Vols!

BmoreVol, I appreciate the offer. I was down there Saturday night. We take clients down there all the time. We have a show down at the Hyatt, Feb 9and 10, so we will definitely be down there on the 8th and 9th. Our company is based out of Nashville. All the people from that office will be here and they all bleed orange.

Place is called Chappell's.....been there many a time myself when I got there for business. Best steak and Reuben sandwichs around and the memorabilia is awesome in there.

I live in KC too. Where is Crossfit gym? I live north of the river near the airport....which is why I don't get down to Coach's in OP, KS unless the game is not on my TV.

I see that a few posters on here are from Kansas City. I am sorry but I have to ask.

How is Kansas City BBQ such as Arthur Bryants? I'm a native Memphian ,and I love Memphis BBQ. I was passing through Kansas City two years ago ,but I never had the oppurtunity to eat any KC BBQ. How is it?

Wow....I never imagined there were:

1) so many other Vols here in KC
and
2) so many on this site

I'm a former Vol letterman, grew up in Nashville, now live in KC (Northland area), and try to keep up with things the best I can. Would be nice to meet some other area Vols and know of some good places to gather to watch the games.

Awesome - we appreciate the business. We own several of the resturants and clubs in KC Live. I will make sure any Vols in town get the proper treatment.

PM me if you would like my email address. Also if you or any other KC Vols want to see a show at the sprint center etc etc.

Quite the generous offer.....with kids I might just have to take you up on that Sprint Center thing when the right show rolls around. :)

Thanks!

Arthur Bryant's is good, probably not as good as back in the day when it made it's name....but still good. The sauce is vinegar based, which is what I like vs. all the Texas style sauce you see in this part of the country.

In Kansas City, like Memphis, there's a BBQ joint on every corner. My favorite is Oklahoma Joe's, which is housed in a gas station just over the state line. My top 3 are:

Oklahoma Joe's
Fiorella's Jack Stack
Arthur Bryant's

Honorable mention goes to Hayward's

Well I am glad to see so many fellow TN Vol fans in KC. I am from Oak Ridge, Tn just outside Knoxville and I just moved to Ottawa,Ks. about thirty min outside of KC and I usually am in KC everyday for work. Don't really know to many people here yet but whenever I am out and about and I see someone with the TN orange on I approach them and let them know I bleed orange as well! Pisses my gf off but I could never expect her to under stand she is a Kansas fan lol.
