Ramifications of all this fallout

How could anyone realistically believe that after the Kiffin fiasco, we could get a high profile coach? This is laughable!!!! A top tier coach is going to go to a place that one has the talent in place to win quickly and two has the ability to pull a lot top level talent from within its home state. Yes we have the history and tradition, but there was no way we were going to bring in a high profile coach after Kiffin left or we would have. Dooley is a guy who took this program as is and is rebuilding it, we should respect him for doing the job that no one seemed to want at the time. Give the the man some time, geeez!!!!

If losing all our remaining games would get rid of Dooley at year’s end I’m all for it….in fact it’s too bad there’s not a means to orchestrate this…its done all the time in business..lots of terms for it but would a waste of time and effort to relate here…

I think you should give me all your money so you will be more motivated to work harder.

:)

Relax, it's a joke...with a point.

Hard for a defense to be effective on 6 straight possessions of 3 and out. I put blame on CJC. We were moving the ball pretty decently against a good Florida Defense.

I agree with this. But Our Def is bad. I made the statement a week before the game that I hope our def doesn't make fla look better than they are. I haven't been impressed with our def all year. We were controlling the game on off. until panic set in.

Isn't this largely a symptom of the new system? I heard all off-season how the defense would take it's lumps while adjusting to the new system.

every time I see this posted I really wonder if the person knows how dumb it sounds. Probably not

I’m surprised a person of your ‘ilk’ isn’t familiar with the ‘have to go down into the crevasse before you can go up’ episode from 30 Rock ….if I’m not mistaken it was based on an old Chinese proverb from either the Sung or Ming dynasties…

I felt all along that last week's game was a tossup. UF will always be a tough out because of all the instate talent. I didn't loose faith in the team, but I lost confidence in CDD to win a hard fought game against a top rated opponent. I'm not ready to call for CDD's job, but his seat is not getting any cooler either.

Florida fires Zook, hires Urban Meyer. Program turns around and wins 2 titles.

Florida, Meyer leaves program in shambles, Muschamp is starting to turn their program around.

Alabama, 97-2006, 3 different coaches, Shula finally fired, they bring in Saban, goes 12-0 in 2nd year

Tennessee, fires Fulmer, Hammy brings in Kiffin then Dooley. 4 years later we are still wallowing in mediocrity. Sooner or later we have to admit to ourselves that the level of coaching is an issue.

Dooley = Mike Shula light

This is my point exactly.

Dooley has given the face of Tennessee football a respectable look again and has recruited some decent talent back to our roster. But every single time he needs to step up and out coach the other team's coach......NUTHIN!

The Florida game was just the perfect scenario to see him step up and gather the team in adversity and do something. But all I saw was more of the same....NUTHIN!

Then say after the game we didn't handle it well when we got down....what did he do to try to change that?

So damn tired of hearing we have scars and we have more scars blah, blah, blah.

Keep saying it is Chaney but Dooley has a headset and could say we need to run the ball. He is the HC so he has the final say.

I hope he beats Georgia, Miss St, Mizzu, Bama, KY, and Vandy and every other team on the schedule. That will mean the Vols are winners again.....just didn't see what was needed in that quarter and a half to expect anything different.

This is completely apples to apples.

So many people talk like UT was in the worst shape
In college football history.

Bama fired a coach because of a strip club. Also the Mike Dubose and Mike Shula garbage. Oh and they had a Lane Kiffin in Dennis Franchione(sp).

There is no reason to welcome mediocrity. Whether it is Dooley or not, we should expect better.

As I have read and witnessed over that last several days since the Florida loss, I see fans calling for CDD to be fired and for Tyler Bray to be benched, what concerns me as a lifelong Tennessee fan is that taking these type of drastic actions would set our program back even farther than it already is. How can anyone say benching Tyler Bray is going to help us win more games this year, like it or not he is our best QB right now and provides us our best chance to win. Firing Coach Dooley means scrambling to hold on you our current recruit commitments and trying to convince other uncommitted recruits that our program is in a stable place and headed in the right direction. We all know that coaching turnover (rest assuredly staff turnover as well if Dooley is fired) causes a great deal of uncertainly with current players and potential recruits in any program. How is this good for Tennessee? Yes we have had some tough seasons the last few years, but CDD was given a program that was in shambles in terms of level of talent. I don’t think anyone can argue the fact he has improved our talent dramatically which is a huge accomplishment considering our previous losing seasons. He has brought back the commitment to our traditions and has put the program ahead of any one player or coach. We have to give this man time to right the ship. I am not saying that he should be given a pass, but In terms of where we were 3-5 years ago to know, we are a better team. Realistically, I think this was a 4-5 year project. If we don’t give CDD the time needed, I fear we will continue to tread the waters of mediocrity for the foreseeable future. Now IS NOT the time to make another change after just 3 years.

Reading comprehension man. I said bench Bray for the Akron game, not the rest of the season. Someone needs to hold the kid accountable at this point he's a junior he's had long enough to learn to read a defense.

Wasn't talking about you specifically "man"!!! There was a general consensus on this site to bench him. Bray needs every snap he can get!!!

Im not sure I follow.

We were in a bad spot, had to settle for Dooley (which is not really a ringing endorsement for him) to take a pay raise and coach in the SEC. Why would he not take that gig? I don't blame him.

Lets not pretend he left a solid job to come here.

Precisely. He was offered a more prestigious, higher paying job that he frankly wasn't even qualified for. He was smart to accept it, but it's disingenuous to act like he did us this great favor.

This is not a hit on Dooley, I will say it again. I respect him and think he is the the right guy for the job. My point was to all the folks on here that think we could have got some big name or high profile in here after Kiffin. It just was not going to happen. Some people think that if we bring in some big name or high profile guy all our problems are over. I disagree and on top of that I don't think there is a big name guy out there that would take this job.

Might of been a great favor, we don't know who it would have been if he didn't accept. Remember, Hamilton was hiring.

Tell me who esle at the time that we offered the job to that was of Dooley's caliber or better wanted the job??? Dooley might have gotten a pay raise, but his job is much more difficult here in this high profile coaching position where he is scurtinized on a daily basis. He could have stayed at LA Tech and still be there now without all the BS. He knew it was going to take a lot of re-building to get us where we need to be. Now that most of the ground work has been laid. everyone wants to cut sling load on him. :ermm:

Wow, if only it were that simple.

Winning solves everything. If he cant do just that Hart will part ways. I believe we are in good hands with Hart... Lets see how things go the rest of the season...

I highly doubt Dooley and the team have took the Aww hell ''Seasons over now'' approach that Some on here have taken. Some bash these 18-22 yr old kids, but I'd bet their approach to the Florida game is much more ''Grown Up'' than some of these Goobers on here have took. Id bet some beat their dog or kids after this loss...

it was hardly a consensus. In fact, I would bet the number that agreed could be counted on one hand

Disagree!!!:stop: I read many posts after the Florida loss that wanted to bench Bray. Many posters were calling him a quitter, sore loser, and other ridiculously cruel things. Bray is the best QB we have right now and we should be supporting him not ridiculing him all the time. The kid wants to win, when things go bad, his emotions get in the way. He just has to mature some more and I am sure he will. I hope that he comes back next year, if not, next year will be a train wreck coming.

The timing was inarguably terrible. I was in the camp of making Kippy the interim head coach in order to take the time to conduct a proper search. Hamilton panicked and made a rush hire in an attempt to save a recruiting class, IMO. I don't blame Dooley for taking the job; sure there is more scrutiny and stress but he's being paid a lot more for it.

Winning does solve everything, but some folks on here have their heads i the clouds when they think we could have gotten some big name coach to come in after Kiffin. I would venture to say we will have a hard time finding a "big name" coach to come in if we let Dooley go. My opinion is we should give Dooley 5 years. Realistically, that is how long it is going to take to re-build after the last few years under Fulmer and the Kiffin fiasco. I also agree with your last paragraph whole heartedly!!!:clapping:
