Ramifications of all this fallout

As I have read and witnessed over that last several days since the Florida loss, I see fans calling for CDD to be fired and for Tyler Bray to be benched, what concerns me as a lifelong Tennessee fan is that taking these type of drastic actions would set our program back even farther than it already is. How can anyone say benching Tyler Bray is going to help us win more games this year, like it or not he is our best QB right now and provides us our best chance to win. Firing Coach Dooley means scrambling to hold on you our current recruit commitments and trying to convince other uncommitted recruits that our program is in a stable place and headed in the right direction. We all know that coaching turnover (rest assuredly staff turnover as well if Dooley is fired) causes a great deal of uncertainly with current players and potential recruits in any program. How is this good for Tennessee? Yes we have had some tough seasons the last few years, but CDD was given a program that was in shambles in terms of level of talent. I don’t think anyone can argue the fact he has improved our talent dramatically which is a huge accomplishment considering our previous losing seasons. He has brought back the commitment to our traditions and has put the program ahead of any one player or coach. We have to give this man time to right the ship. I am not saying that he should be given a pass, but In terms of where we were 3-5 years ago to know, we are a better team. Realistically, I think this was a 4-5 year project. If we don’t give CDD the time needed, I fear we will continue to tread the waters of mediocrity for the foreseeable future. Now IS NOT the time to make another change after just 3 years.

Be glad the posters on here don't coach the team! Just last week Bray was a Heisman front runner to the same people that want him benched.

Believe it or not teams improve over the course of seasons. Florida didn't out talent us or anything, we panicked. Our offense and defense simply broke down. If we can learn from these mistakes and start finishing games, we can still play with everyone outside bama on this schedule. Florida loss hurt, but the season is still way too young to give up...

what fallout??...we lost one game...We'll have a game this weekend, the next weekend, etc., etc., etc...

well written and stated position. I agree. Frankly I am ready to quit on the VolNation fanbase while continuing to support my team and my coach in Knoxville. I cannot believe all the negativity around here.

We're not as bad as we looked in Q4 versus Florida, we'll be ok with 8 or 9 wins this year and maybe even a surprise. Hang in there VolNation and quit it with all the negativity.

Agreed. And to think there are some who are still griping about a loss to a good Florida team astounds me. Yeah it was tough... Im over it now. I thought preseason we would go 9-3 or 8-4... For all I know we finish the season with 1 loss. Move on Vol fans, I for 1 am excited about what the rest of this season could bring. If Dooley cant cut it.. Give him the axe... But I will support the guy till it happens. Crying and whining like a little school girl on here just makes the entire fanbase look weak. Id hate to know that all of my enjoyment and happiness in life hinged on a Volunteer win. My kids are healthy, and I have great family and friends. If im in the minority then so be it. The Vols Beating Florida would have been great for the program, but there is plenty of ball to be played... Lets see how it all plays out before some of you slice your wrists... JMO.

I don't agree with the TB part, the game was put on his shoulders because the coaches panicked . Tn was running the ball pretty well. I can't put the whole game on TB, he wasn't giving up over 200 yds in the 2nd half. 20 points should have been enough to beat Fla. they only had 5 TDs coming into the game. Sal and his def. made Flas off. a lot better than they were.

Hiring the right guy, not the cheapest guy, is what is needed.

Maybe CDD is the guy. Maybe not. We are in this for the whole season, so no real reason to go crazy either way.

We will know at the end of the year.

It was this type of thinking and panic that led to the Dooley hire in the first place. Bottom line is that Dooley has filled out the roster and has made improvements to the situation he took over; however he has yet to show the ability to beat teams with equal to greater talent in his tenure, or even stay competitive in games against our primary rivals. I am not saying we fire Dooley tomorrow, but if this two plus year trend continues this season we cannot base decisions on saving an average recruiting class. Hell, even a top 5 recruiting class shouldn't preclude doing what is best for Tennessee.

If losing all our remaining games would get rid of Dooley at year’s end I’m all for it….in fact it’s too bad there’s not a means to orchestrate this…its done all the time in business..lots of terms for it but would a waste of time and effort to relate here…

Hard for a defense to be effective on 6 straight possessions of 3 and out. I put blame on CJC. We were moving the ball pretty decently against a good Florida Defense.

First highlighted part is obviously the reason for much of the negativity. It's been a long time and as a result we now have many hopeless fans.

Second highlighted part I'm not sure is appropriate. I really don't think we should be urging patience if this is a real option for some of our fans.

Florida fires Zook, hires Urban Meyer. Program turns around and wins 2 titles.

Florida, Meyer leaves program in shambles, Muschamp is starting to turn their program around.

Alabama, 97-2006, 3 different coaches, Shula finally fired, they bring in Saban, goes 12-0 in 2nd year

Tennessee, fires Fulmer, Hammy brings in Kiffin then Dooley. 4 years later we are still wallowing in mediocrity. Sooner or later we have to admit to ourselves that the level of coaching is an issue.

Dooley = Mike Shula light

CDD was one of the few that would even think about taking this job at UT when he did and a average recruiting class,speaks at how well he has recruited since he has been here,i think he needs at least a couple more years,Sals D needs some growing time,to get what he wants in the system,now lets talk about the play calling of the OC,Chaney should be told he is on a short lease for sure,the lack of even trying to run the ball when they got down,says it all to me

We have to prove that we can play good football the rest of the season. we missed so many oppurtunities vs UF.

I'm personally sick of floating around as a freaking 8-4 team. This is godd@mn Tennessee. We should've gone out and hired someone no matter the cost. That is what 'Bama did to get Saban. Instead Hammy again made a dumb hire on someone who has no proven winning record.
