With Rajion Neal working almost exclusively with the receivers these days, Tennessee's third option at tailback is freshman Tom Smith. He carried three times for 6 yards in Game 1 versus Montana but has not touched the ball since.
"Tom Smith is coming along well," Fontenette said. "He's a downhill runner who has been doing a very fine job the last few days, and I'm pretty sure we'll start to see him in the rotation some."
After conceding that the performance of his running backs is "not what we expected," the grad assistant added: "It's just us hitting the holes like we need to. It hasn't been there but practice has been going well. Guys are running harder, and we expect to see some differences
I would think he deserves some more carries. Neal showed some real promise last year coming in to spell Poole. His injury(ies?) during spring apparently have been a major setback, causing M. Lane to become the #2 back. What has been most troubling for me is why the coaches keep saying that he [Neal] needs more touches, and that has yet to happen.
However, the problem with our running game has just as much to do with our offensive line as it does with the poor stats of our running backs. Changing RB's won't be the answer until we get our run-blocking figured out...
they would like for him to try KOR but he wasn't interested in doing it so they aren't interested in him at RB or WR or anywhere.. just one of his little issues
This kid hasn't said he wouldn't do it look at his interviews but what he has said im working hard just trying to get on the field. When this kid gets healthy and comfortable at reciever watch out, trust me!!!!

Do you know more than the snippet I posted from TOS? I've been trying to piece his deal together and it doesn't add up but I know usually you know more than most. There was talk last year he was slow to pick up plays I wondered if that had something to do with all this.

he has been soft and doesn't like to get hit. and his attitude about doing whatever he is asked to do is poor.
That's bull****.All this negative talk will stop very soon. He might not run like Lattimore but who does. The kid is not soft and he had the best attitude you can have when you have played a position all your career and all of a sudden you r moved. That's alot to take in.

Just let him get more more than 2 touches a game and then make that comment

When have you knew of a player in CollegeFootball dictated what he does and the head Coach still insists that he needs to get him the ball. It's all up to the coach. No player is bigger than the team. You play where ever you have to play to win.I asked in a previous post which you may have overlooked or may have disregarded but my simple question is why not take touches as a returner if this were the case? It's clear in what I've seen he only wants RB or WR. RB he's buried due to injuries and WR he has to get the plays down so returning kicks or punts would have been instant touches.
