Rain

I would think it would help the less talented team aka Vandy. We have the advantage at the WR position against their secondary and rain typically makes throwing and catching more difficult. So, I would expect us to lean towards running the ball more. The only way Vandy can hang in this game is if they limit our possessions and it becomes a ball control game. We still win, imo, but it makes things a little more difficult for the Vols.
Throwing can be difficult if the balls are wet for sure. However, offense has an advantage because they know where they are going and can adjust their footwork. Defensive players have to react and those quick reactions lead to slips. It’s a two way street. It will happen to our D as well.

When I said this, I was assuming that it will be pouring the rain, which makes it very difficult to throw and catch. I do agree, that if it is just drizzling or only the grass is wet, that it is an advantage for the offense for the reason you stated.

Rain favors the offensive team in passing the ball. DBs are reacting to what WRs are doing which happens slower in the rain.

I've always heard that reasoning and it sounds accurate, but at least in my observation, rarely plays out that way. Any decline in the speed of the game seems to advantage the better team in the trenches and the more technically sound team overall.

I live a little more than an hour West of Nashville and the rain started here last night about 11:00 pm. With spells in between, it has rained pretty steadily since then. We have had heavy rain and thunder, and there has even been sporadic hail at times.
I hope the game can we played without the messy stuff I have had here.

Always felt it helped the offensive running game but not the passing game as much. Candy has an elite RB. Question is if he has already checked out.

5 minutes ago at Neyland
Neyland Stadium has been cleared because of lightning before the game between Tennessee and Vandy even started.

The difference in the hourly forecasts by Accuweather and Weather.com is striking. If Accuweather is right, we'll stay mostly dry. If Weather.com (The Weather Channel) is right, we'll be wet the whole game (those of us not under cover).

Wow. Easy to see which one was right.

I guess we need to throw Accuweathers forecast in the weather forecast trash bin. I drove to and from Abingdon. What a miserable drive back home. The UT beat down of Vandy made it much better.
