Rain on Saturday

If Spurrier were the coach, absolutely! But he's not.

Spurrier used to love rainy games, his thoughts were "when footing is bad, it favors the offensive player because he knows where he's going, the defensive player doesn't necessarily know where he's going." And when you think about Spurrier offenses, his teams killed it when it was raining.

But with Nussmeier, it'll likely mean Florida runs it up the middle 90% of the time to play it safe.

I believe it favors our run game and short passing game. Plus, our defense doesn't have to be quite as fast on the field. UT wins.

I believe this favors Gators, thoughts?

Why? Not saying you are wrong, but why do you think it favors the gators? I will just say rain will give advantage to the team that can run the ball the best, and hopefully that is the Vols.

This is going to be a good old fashion brawl ya'll. Not lying. This is dirty football. What these freshmen are about to walk into is going to define them. Someone needs to show them the 2002 game... seriously. Make them sit down and watch it.

I will add this; Gainesville (aka Rainsville) gets rain almost daily in July and August and I know it was a particularly rainy August this year. So if nothing else, Florida has practiced a ton in the rain.

But again, no confidence in Florida's ability to do anything on offense in any type of weather.

I'm a little worried because we haven't seen this team play in the rain. Will the team be able to hold on to the football? Will we miss more tackles because of slipping?

Google say 95% chance of rain
local ABC affiliate says 40%

And this school of thought was one of the many reasons Spurrier was so great. While conventional wisdom was "rain favors the running team," you look up and the ball is flying around the ballyard in a downpour. Sorry for reminiscing, Florida fans are doing that a lot these days.

This is a Maxim game. It'll be ugly whoever wins. Mistakes will be made. I hope Butch is smart enough to lean on the run game, shorten the game, play ball control in the slop. Mac will likely push, and I think they'll have trouble at QB. I just hope it doesn't come down to in-game coaching.

Late summer afternoon. Florida. Thunderstorms.

They follow one another like ducklings behind a momma duck. (no word on whether they're pulling a truck this time)

I do remember Spurrier standing the conventional wisdom on its head. I always just figured it was because he was gonna pass the ball 60 times a game no matter what. Even under gale winds. That was just the game he loved to play, weather be damned.

But an afternoon storm is pretty standard fare for our visits to the Swamp. Think we'll be fine, and will use both the run and pass game. Florida will try to do the same.

I'd make cars fils aime the star of this game. Doesn't he have family that way? You got to play the Florida guys.

that means we could be in serious trouble, with our defensive woes against the run, I think we are around last in FBS against the run. I maybe wrong on that.

the devastation across the state of Florida and its impact on families and friends is the major distraction for players and coaches of both teams. Much more so than rain.. gonna be hard to analysis the little things having impacts due to that major thing IMO

I think this might help our defense out a little bit. We do seem slow, especially with runs headed to the outside. This should slow down the track enough to allow our guys to get better angles and secure the edge in time.

Offensively for us, I dunno. Kelly seems like a guy that could be successful in a downpour. Just not sure how our WRs and Dormady react, and if we can't throw it, and Florida knows that, we could be in for a long day.

Florida practices in their indoor practice facility when it rains/storms.

UF rushed for 11 yards against a Big 10 defense. We may hold them to negative yards rushing, rain or not.

I've seen nothing in two games (or several more dating back to last year) that we are capable of holding even Gibbs High School to negative yards rushing.

Rain means their offensive line might as well just lay down on the ground after the snap.
