Raiders' pursuit of Jon Gruden could include ownership stake, sources say

I hope this is true. I suspect that if it is, it will be proven once and for all that Gruden is vastly overrated as a coach and that the Vols were damned lucky that he never had any intention of coaching them. When the Vols H.C. position comes open again, I hope that Gruden is in a nursing home.

One or two packages were put together by some prominent boosters. Apparently J.Haslam and yes man Currie had another coach in mind. After the attempt to hire Schiano, JG witnessed the "disunity" among boosters for the 2nd time. I doubt his intent was to ever troll UT.

:lolabove::lolabove::lolabove::thud::loco:

I promise you, if packages were put together Currie and other people of position at UT would've known about it.

All this is unverified information put forth by so called “insiders”.

This. I love how the "insiders" drooled all over each other in the Gruden threads. There was NO insider info.

He actually basically promoted himself for the Bucs job again and they blew him off. He knows ESPN is sinking fast, I think he goes back to Raiders.

Never understood this reasoning. Even if ESPN gets rid of MNF someone else will pick it up and probably hire Gruden.

This sounds more like it being too good an offer to pass up (i.e., a team willing to just flat out give him way too much, almost if by name alone) then trying to “jump ship” because ESPN is (or isn’t) “going down.”

I mean, they’re giving him partial ownership in the franchise, which no NFL coach has ever been given (not even an all time great like Belicheck)...the guy’s going to pretty much get to be one of the voices in the franchise that decides things, such as whether he’s doing a good job that year and if he’s worth keeping next year.

Jon Gruden is made to be an NFL coach. No idea how he would do at the college level. You're restricted in how much you can practice with kids in college. Gruden is a good coach but I'm not sure how well he can put a pro system in a digestible format for college kids on a limited time table and honestly I'm pretty sure he doesn't give a damn to deal with the arbitrary rules of college.

you're also restricted in how much you can practice in the pro's aswell since the last contract agreement. That's why there are no more 2 adays.

I think he’s waiting for the Titans to lose Saturday to take that job

ESPN analyst Jon Gruden admitted there's a "good chance" he takes the Raiders' head-coaching job.

The 54-year-old has been the only name connected to the job to this point. The Raiders need to interview at least one minority candidate to fulfill the Rooney Rule, but it sounds like any other candidate would be wasting his time talking to owner Mark Davis since Gruden is assured the gig. Gruden said the reports of him getting a share in ownership as part of his deal to take the job are completely untrue. Gruden said missing the players and "the grind" drew him back. The move should become official sometime after Gruden calls his last game at ESPN this Saturday.
