Raiders' pursuit of Jon Gruden could include ownership stake, sources say

Yes, but don’t don’t kid yourself, Gruden was definitely trolling UT.

He was; but we have some gullible fans who refused to see the plain truth in front of them. And I would give them some slack if this wasn't the second time they fell for it.

I guarantee a third of this website’s users would fall for it again. Despite common sense and zero evidence, they will believe whatever a stranger on the internet tells them.

I would agree.

If in 3-4 years Pruitt isn't getting it done, and one of the usual suspect "insiders" posts that Gruden is interested, the same mouth-breathers will fall for it again.

No. He was trolling the morons in the UT fanbase who fell for the same empty promises 2 times in only 5 years. He's not trolling UT. Most in the fanbase had zero expectations from Gruden. Enough tho made the pathetic non-story have legs.

Huge difference in those two groups.

As far as I'm concerned JG can play with this phenomenon all he wants. Its freaking hilarious to me. I'm thinking just butt hurt fans who listened to the trolling and fake news, are the ones upset that he "trolled us".

His agent called the idea of Gruden coaching UT a fantasy last time around. How much stronger of a rejection do you need? It’s not his job to publicly comment every time UT fans make up rumors. When de he ever claim to be a VFL? Because he has said publicly positive things about us? He does that with everyone.

Yes he did! Makes me sad to see the ignorant fools who really think that was a smokescreen. Not that I haven't stoked the fire myself. :whistling:

I heard from a beaver that attends Pellissippi State on a secretarial studies scholarship that it's a done deal. Look for the announcement on either Thursday, Saturday, or Sunday at the smallest airport within 100 miles of Oakland.

Grad Assistant at UT or not; local property owner or not; Vol fan or not; he is not a VFL. He never was, and he never will be. He left an entire fan base hanging on his every word, move, and wardrobe choice for weeks. And for no reason. He knew what was going on in Knoxville, and Vol Nation. He did nothing to dampen the hopes, rumors, or enthusiasm. I wish him well in whatever choices he makes going forward, but if he's waiting for me to show up and ask for his autograph...I hope he brought a Snickers bar with him.

Go Vols.

But he loves UT! So he’s going to go coach in Oakland instead. Lol

UT will always be a better job than Oakland. Dude is just too lazy to coach college.

Lol. More money, and partial ownership in an NFL franchise.

How much is Oakland offering? More than 8-9 million? Just curious. The owenership is what it is, you can’t exactly do that in college lol

Why? Your anger should be directed at those "insiders" seeking attention on a message board spreading rumors.

Because I’m sick of hearing his name
Because I never thought he would be a good coach at UT after being out of coaching for a decade
Because his SB was won with Dungy’s team, and he’s otherwise been mediocre
Because he’s an attention whore who refused to make a simple one sentence statement dispelling rumors
Because if he tanks hard I’ll hopefully never see another idiotic Grumors thread

I’m so over gruden.

I would have loved for him to come to Tennessee, but I’m numb to him now. I hope he takes the Raiders job so we can see him coach again. If he’s still got it, he’s wasting it in the broadcast booth.

I agree. If all of that is true with the Raiders, it's kind of put up or shut up and be a talking head forever time for Gruden.

One or two packages were put together by some prominent boosters. Apparently J.Haslam and yes man Currie had another coach in mind. After the attempt to hire Schiano, JG witnessed the "disunity" among boosters for the 2nd time. I doubt his intent was to ever troll UT.

When Butchie was fired it was evident then that Oakland’s season was lost and that they’d probably make a change. It was reported that Davis has already gone after JG before this year so I’m sure JG figured he’d have another chance at the job in a matter of months (at the time). IF he was ever considering UT I’m sure the possibility of the Raiders job was a big factor in him saying no thanks to Knoxville. Along with how dysfunctional we looked at the time with an incompetent AD (Currie) & Haslam and the grind of recruiting and dealing with kids vs professionals. Then again he may have never been considering UT and chose not to speak on the rumors because he didn’t want to embarrass UT. Either way it will be fun to watch him coach again just to see if he still has it. Hard to believe with his knowledge of the game that he doesn’t, but it has been several years so how much has the game changed since his Tampa days? I guess we’ll find out.

All this is unverified information put forth by so called “insiders”.

I'm so mad at Jon Gruden for not taking the Tennessee job despite only working as a GA back in the 80s, never once suggesting he was interested in the job, and making 8 figure money to talk about football on TV. Why would he do that to us? We're an elite program despite not winning our conference in nearly two decades or even the division in a decade. And of course I looked like an idiot after believing it back in 2012, but that shouldn't matter. I don't operate within the bounds of reality. My mom told me I am smart and my new jeans look nice. Now where's that short yellow bus that gives rides to Grumorville?

So mad.
