Raid The Virginia Tech Allotment!

Just a simple question, but what has Tennessee done recently to warrant looking down on Virginia Tech. Not a flame, I genuinely want to know why some of you think this will be a blow out. And don't give me ACC, good teams are good teams regardless of conference. Would you want to play Boise State or Cincinnati right now?

We'll that "spirit yell" mascot sure looks like a turkey to me... minus the jewels of course.

Yeh, kind of like the Stanford Cardinal being a tree, the Crimson Tide being an elephant, A hokie being a turkey .... you get the picture.

Sure we would love to play Boise or Cincy. The reason we don't is there is absolutely nothing to gain by playing those teams.

what have the hokies done ever to warrant being in the same conversation as tennessee?

Kind of like UGA Bulldogs mascot being a bulldog, or the LSU Tigers being a Tiger or the VT Hokies being a HOKIE! Yeah I get it.

"Back to the topic... Let's keep buying their allotment. We sold ours out over one night, no reason we can't sell theirs out soon too"

LOL

I posted this on another thread, and it answers a lot of questions about why many of us feel good about this game...

Things we know to be true:

We have a talent edge over Va Tech
We have a coaching edge over Va Tech on both sides of the ball
Monte Kiffin > Brian Steinspring
We have a crowd edge over Va Tech
Va Tech has a history of poor bowl performance, with an all time bowl win percentage of 36%
Va Tech is an ACC team with a fairly easy schedule
Our season stats are very comparable to Va Tech, but we did it against tougher schedule, and we have a few outliers (UCLA) averaged in due to the poor start to the season.
Against our one common opponent, Alabama, Va Tech gave up nearly 500 yards. Tennessee gave up 150.

I don't think many of us are predicting a blowout necessarily, but I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a two score win. We are down right now, and hurting on special teams and a few other positions, so I don't think we can expect to do a 40 point beat down like LSU did.

And you're certainly right that a good team can be a good team regardless of conference, like Miami and FSU used to be. But more often than not an easy schedule makes an okay team have the record of a good team. Forgive me for not believing that a team comprised of a bunch of 2 and 3 star athletes that did not get offers from the big programs suddenly became one of the ten best teams in the country.

I'd say Cincinnati is probably in a comparable situation to Va Tech. Decent teams that get a lot out of their players, but overrated due to an easier schedule.

Granted there is always the "any given Saturday" saying in football, and it would not be impossible for Va Tech to pull out a win given some of our very real weaknesses. Va Tech's special teams haven't been anything special this year, but they still have a clear advantage over Tennessee's. If Va Tech can exploit that, and if Tennessee has some bad turnovers, Va Tech could very well come out with a W.

Actually they should have it 30mins north of Blacksburg at Salem Stadium...I think its sits about 5,000+ fans. Its where they have the Stagg Bowl every year.

HaHa....might as well move it to Patterson Stadium at William Byrd High School

You do realize that we're an underdog right?

Its hard to talk the game when most of you are making this a 52-0 UT win.

I wouldn't put too much stock into that. Everyone has their "special" fans. I know that if I went to Va Tech's message board I'd find one of yours.

As for the game, I think that it should be extremely competitive. How are your guys special teams this year? Are they like they've always been or down this year? Hopefully, for our sake they are down, because our ST are abysmal.

We almost have to be based on record and rankings. I just stated reasons why I feel good about this game.

That is when a Va Tech fan or a negavol can come with their argument as to why they might think they will win.

I assume it would go something like this...

"We are 9-3
We are ranked 11th.
We beat Miami
Ryan Williams
Your special teams are bad."

There, I did it for them. I just think we have a more compelling argument as to why we win. Did I get this right, Tech fans, or am I missing anything?

I'm no Tech fan but that argument sounds about right.

Apparently Ryan Williams should have been able to win the Heisman this year. Let's see what he does against a real defense.

Really? Post a link or it didn't happen... It's one thing to hit a high for 30 seconds, it's another to keep it going the whole game... 66K at Lane is consistently louder than the 100K at Neyland... All major sports publications support that statement...

This is the most ridiculous statement of the day from you Chokie fans.....My roomate in college and his family were Platinum Hokies so I attended games on the reg. I saw games from Miami, Nebraska, FSU, LSU, GT and not one time did the stadium get as loud as when we play non-conference games....Its a over-rated atmosphere, student section is a joke, band is lame, and Enter Sandman is the only time it got loud and that only lasted a min. or so....Tell me one thing B-Burg has to offer (there is a reason you dont get the top recruits in your own state...yeah you got wilson this year but havent had the top player in years and Wilson wears Bryce Brown pj's but UT had 4 of the Top 10 in Va and Kiffin told 3 they would never play here) its cold and smells like cow crap, downtown is a joke, you athletics outside of football is all you can offer and you have to stay in Roanoke on games days b/c B-Burg is so pathetic...

Nothing to gain when you are unranked and playing the #11 team in the nation...LMAO

It's funny you name all those top tier programs that you play, but when I look at your schedule I see Western Kentucky, UCLA, Ohio, and Memphis...Puahahahaha

whats funny is that Western Kentucky team is the same team Chokies beat by what was it 4points last year....and we won by 50....

Its hard to talk the game when most of you are making this a 52-0 UT win.

No it comes down to your fan base thinking they are the greatest in the world.....Do you realize how much money your athletic program cost the ACC last year.....

I never really gave any attention to the location listed next to everyone, but it is interesting in this thread. Lots of Va Tech hate coming from Virginia. I go to the Va Tech/Virginia game every year, and that is my only experience with any of their fans (thank god there aren't any Va Tech fans in Tennessee), are they as bad outside of game days as they are during them? From my experiences, they are the rudest, most classless fans I've encountered anywhere, at least at the games (it has gotten a lot worse over the past few years... they had start a PR campaign about sportsmanship it got so bad).

So it appears like the two rudest fan bases "most people" have ever met will be meeting in Atlanta. Hot damn I can't wait:)
