I have the iphone and this past weekend downloaded an app so I could listen to the game in the stadium. However, the cell phone reception I got was horrible. My dad also brought a radio and he couldn't get any reception on his either.

I saw several others listening to the game. What's the trick, so is it just the quality of equipment?

Thanks for the help.

All wireless carriers have bad reception on gameday in Neyland because the local towers are overloaded and there isn't enough bandwidth to go around. It usually takes a couple tries to make a call/send a txt message. As for the radio, not sure why he couldn't get reception.

Also alot of people including myself and other cellphones couldnt send picture messages but sporatically. Must have been tower over load with 99,000 people trying to send pictures at same time. I have at&t others around me had verizon.

Radio reception isn't the biggest problem. It's the crowd noise. If the crowd is into the game you won't be able to hear a thing.

I want to know what has happened to the sports animal. It's like they dialed their wattage way down. I can't even pick them up on my headset in Neyland anymore.

The reason I'd really like to get it working, is during the injuries and when plays are under review, so I can get some communication on if the injurys are serious or not, or if the play will be reversed. Things like that.

i wish people would be more respectful and keep it down

I have had no problems getting a signal in Neyland on Sprint. I have even watched other ballgames on my phone via my slingbox. As for "can't hear the radio because of the crowd noise" just get some good noise isolating earbud headphones and you won't have any problem at all hearing the radio or whatever you're plugged into.

A single cell tower can only handle between 1200-4000 connections at a time depending on the technology.

That's because no one has Sprint. Your the only one using the tower.

The only game I made it to last year was UCLA....I had no reception problems at all (Verizon). I was able to send and receive texts all game (when I paid attention to the phone)

I never had a problem last year. Saturday I could text part of the time, but that was it. I could connect to Volnation before the game started, then nothing. I have Verizon.

I have AT&T and couldn't send or receive any messages at all while I was in the stadium. I left half-way thru the 3rd quarter and when I got about to humanities I received about 5 texts all at once spanning back to about 5:45. Just terrible reception, like others have said, due to the fact 100,000 people are trying to use their phones at once.

I have Verizon and have always had a hard time getting cell phone reception in the stadium. Even if you have a smartphone its still hard and they are supposed to have strong signal strength.

It's the quality of the carrier... AT&T is AWFUL in most places not called LA and NYC.

(I sold phones for them a few years back... dropped calls go WAY before they went digital, I can tell you that.)
