Quote From Simms

I don't see him forcing much. I see him hesitating, making bad reads, using poor foot work, locking onto the receiver he's throwing too, and throwing inaccurate passes. If that is due to all of the mental pressure he's under, then all Dooley needs to do is give him a Zanax and problem solved. You should spoken up sooner and saved us all this nightmarish season we are currently in.

Indeed. It isn't the pressure; if he had no pressure (as is frequently enough the case), he still struggles to read the defense, read the coverage, read a blitz, and then almost always, and forever, waits to throw the ball until after the receiver is waiting for it rather than on the cut. ESPN did a nice analysis of why Gabbert for Missouri hurt OU -- it was because of the quickness of his release & throwing the ball on the cut rather than waiting for the wideout to be open. Simms is a high school QB who couldn't cut it at Louisville and was mediocre in JC -- he's the least talented QB at Tennessee since before we installed a pro-style offense.

most quarterbacks are cocky which is why many are successful. Has Simms has enough success to be "cocky"? Always open for debate and there is porbably not a good answer in regards to that. Doesn't bother me but I'm rarely bothered by something someone says which doesn't impact me.

I will make this point on the Simms / Bray debate. Once the decision is made by the staff that Bray should get the starting reps over Simms due to performance, they have to be damn sure that is the right choice. Because if Bray goes down hurt, then you turn back to the guy you have just deflated by replacing him.

So you have a guy who may not have the drive necessary to lead the team. That is always a huge factor when you replace starting quarterbacks. You have to be right with that choice.

Never thought I'd see a day where I yearned for those early 80's QBs under the often atrocious Johnny Majors offenses.

Simms is just showing his spoiled side a bit. I'm sure his daddy is giving him advice also. He also wants to show confidence, which is good, but when you're offering quotes like that, you might want to have something more than a win against UT-Martin and an overtime thriller against UAB as your only wins.
