I hate to say this but nick satan is probably the best coach in college football

many will agree with you on that. What I found funny was when Kiffin said bama was better coached many thought he was taking a jab at Meyer. Turns out he was just being honest

That team wasn't as good as the 1990's teams IMO. Shows how things have changed in college football.

Sorry but that 2001 team was the best UT team I have ever seen. more talent on that team then most others. downfall was coaching. Fulmer made us lose 2 games we sould of won. squib kick and poor defense on UGA and poor defense calling on LSU.

Fulmer was a good recruiter back in the day but a terrible head coach. I think Fulmer is the worst head coach that has won a National Title ever. His game plans and disciplining players is the worst I've ever seen. The one game that sticks in my mind on Fulmers career is the SEC Title game. We had better players and had knocked out their first string QB but Fulmer still found a way to get us beat. Seeing Matt Mauck running all over runs makes me puke to this day.

Were Saban's comments made in the spirit of complimenting perhaps our finest team or as a left-handed compliment? I did not see the interview.

The talent that was on the field for the Vols in 2001 was incredible. Just look at the NFL and you will see it all over the place.

That team with these coaches UT has now would be world beaters.

What sucks about that game to me, is we were destroying everybody that touched the ball for LSU that day. Davey and Toefield were gone by halftime, so what do our DUMBA** headcoach and DC decide to do? Call off the dogs, and play "smart conservative football". They gave LSU that game. I have despised Phil and Chavis ever since. That was the day I finally realised our coaches were stupid.

I'd remember them more fondly if they hadn't chosen the 2nd half of the SECCG to play their worst 30 minutes of the year.

I always wonder what would Phil's legacy be if they had come out after halftime. Legendary, I imagine.

Very True.

The night UT beat Florida should have been the night Fulmer got fired.

He did one of the dumbest things a coach could have done. When the team arrived back in Knoxville that night, there was a press conference. Several of the players were waving roses around. They were bragging about going to the Rose Bowl to play in the NC game. Fulmer was there celebrating with them.

In my opinion, Tennesse lost to LSU that night...
Fulmer forgot that UT had to win the SECCG in order to get to the Rose Bowl. Fulmer let himself and his team overlook LSU.

That night started the downfall of Fulmer. UT started gradually going downhill from that point.

Saban is right.. the talent on that team was outstanding.
No way would LSU had won that game if Fulmer had prepared his team. IMO it was better than the 1998 team.

Saban also said and was correct... when asked about the David and Goliath thing.... He stated something like anytime you are playing in a championship game, conference or national, the other team is pretty good or they would not be there..

Was watching the Citrus Bowl of Vols beating Michigan. Henderson, Haynesworth, Stallworth, Witten, etc. .....holy cow! I was one of the Vol victims at SEC championship game in the Chik-dome. Moments that make we want to wretch to this day. Saban is right about this team. Imagine if the current Vol staff had that crew? Well, gang, I'm optimistic those days are coming!

That 2001 Sec title game loss to Lsu is still to this day makes me sick. This years Bama game is still bothering me.I am a huge Vols fan and don't like to see Tennessee lose games like that.

Yea, Saban is right the Vols had a lot of talented players in those days. Too bad our coaches didn't know what to do with so much talent.

The Vols went 11-2, finished 4th in the country, dropped #2 Florida in Gainesville and humiliated Michigan in the bowl game.

They lost the SECCG to a team they should have beaten, thanks mainly to fumbles by two of our best players, but to say the coaches didn't know what to do with them is revisionist history.

Maybe one of the most talented teams to come out of the SEC. They underperformed big time. That was sad.

Good grief fellas, let Phil die in peace. You act like Phil wasted it all and somebody else would have won a championship those years. We wouldn't have had the same players if it weren't for Phil. For most of his career Phil had spectacular recruiting. Probably the best Tennessee has ever had. You can't relive history without Phil and expect to have the same players.

Undoubtedly. There were like 6 pro-bowlers that played on that title team. 14 starters started in the NFL as well. I think 28 players on the roster made NFL teams. Ridiculous talent.

No good coach overlooks any team, much less a team in a conference championship game.

When Fulmer allowed the media to film him and his team waving those roses around, bragging about how they were Pasadena bound before they played the SEC Championship game is no one's fault but the head coach.

Can you imagine the big smile on Saban when he saw that film.... What a motivational tool ...
