Quit with the next year crap

Agree. 5-7, 7-6, 8-4 (bowl win or loss pending). The days of blowing the Vols out are over. Stellar recruiting as well. I'm happy with Butch

THIS!!! How can people be mad at the staff right now? I'm upset we lost but I'm proud that we showed up to play when nobody on earth gave as a snowballs chance in hell. We are IMPROVING. It doesn't happen over night. I was a huge critic of Jones' following the OU and Florida losses, but after UGA and tonight's performance I have seen drastic improvement in this team and the coaching decisions/game plans.

I agree with everything you just said, but Idont understand how people can be so ok with losing

I don't understand what you want people to do? I'm not ok with losing. I wish we would have won. There. I said it. Is that what you want?

Maybe people are just tired of seeing other people only ****ing and moaning about how terrible it is that we lost without taking anything positive away from the game. A game where we were 14.5 point underdogs. No one is OK with losing. It's just that some people don't feel like wallowing in the **** all the time.

Overnight? This is Butch's THIRD YEAR. People say "Look at the crap he inherited". What about what Dooley inherited? He had some very close losses and nice moral victories too. LSU anyone? Remember that? Dooley certainly got zero slack.

I'm sorry, but you either win or you don't. Butch has lost two very winnable games vs Florida, and 4 games THIS year he had a shot at winning.

I could find MANY programs who have 'come close' to beating ranked teams. Nobody cares.

I'm not a Dooley fan. Merely drawing a comparison of his tenure to Butch's and what has/is being said.

Dooley famously said it was too bad Vols didn't have the "external indicators" (meaning WINS apparently) that showed how much the program was progressing.

What we are hearing now is the same stuff...and almost identical win/loss records.

At some point you just have to WIN the friggin' game. Period.

Nobody is ok with losing. It's entirely possible to be disappointed in the outcome, proud of the players and coaches, and optimistic about the future of the program all at the same time.

if this is how you believe then you are an exception to what I said, its the people who think that todays game was ok because we were supposed to get blown and totally not fazed by losing

Dooley got butt banged by VANDY his 3rd year and failed to make a bowl game, again. Dooley dug the hole deeper for Jones by creating a LOSER culture at UT and recruiting subpar talent that Jones is still living with. Can you really not see the improvement that has occurred in the program outside of the W/L column? If jones wins out AND we win a bowl game, this team will finish 9-4 likely in the top 25. Will people like you shut up then????

Your third sentence tells me all I need to know about you. No need to reply any further.

People been saying it for 10 years.
Just shut up and root on the VOLS game by game

Quit it with the 10 year crap. Too many idiots like you and of your ilk carelessly throw this number out when it includes a trip to the SEC Championship in 2007. I know it sounds good on paper, but it makes you guys look like stooges.

Has no clue about what he is watching. What year did Dooley beat South Carolina or Georgia. What year did Dooley take our 2 biggest rivals to the wire in their own stadiums? Name a year where Dooley didn't experience any blowout losses. When did Dooley bring in a top 5 class let alone 2? What were Dooley's successful head coaching stops before arriving at the University of Tennessee? If you can't see a difference in how Butch and Dooley conduct their business then there is no hope for you.

There is no shame in losing a close game with the team that has been raking in the top class for the past 5yrs or so....whom we were expected to lose to, even with all the hype surrounding our team, early on.

My main beef is the decision to keep playing Medley when we know he is a major liability, and despite lots of injuries to our OL, we decide to leave our biggest player on the whole team...Charles Mosley...on the bench. He could have helped a great deal against Bama's huge DT's.

Instead, we play an undersized freshman. Jack Jones is going to be a heck of a OL, but we all knew he needed a full year or two in the S&C program, to get up to SEC size.

I'm also a bit pissed off that on the last Bama drive, where they scored, Janzek NEVER put KMac on the DL. We knew they were trying to pound the ball down the field and run out the clock, using the running game. KMac is our best, biggest DT and we NEEDED him. It's just personnel choices like that, which make me shake my head in disbelief.

You're right. The "next year" talk has been going on for awhile but it's also obvious there's a different feel to Jones' "next year" compared to Doofus'. I mean, Dooley consistently got blown out by Alabama and other top teams. The progression toward being good again is easy to see now even though it's frustrating at times.

Well it's not this year, so it must be next year.

In all seriousness, most of us.... Well, a lot of us have said from preseason, that next year would be our year. Just look at the improvement. You can't deny it. Heck we almost pulled it off this year. Tennessee will make a run NEXT YEAR.

Just hope we can get some recruits to fill the huge void that will be left after next year

And still ZERO wins over our 2 biggest rivals.....

Now I'd be happy with 9-4, but he needs to beat FL and Bama, starting next year.

the fact that you arent mad after a loss worries me, you should at least be half-way disgruntled after each and every loss

Agree
What is the point of being a fan in you are not at least a little upset after a loss?

Should be mad (to varying degrees) after a loss and celebrate (to varying degrees) after wins.

I hate when we are huge underdogs and play a team close. It is worst than being blown away.

Really hope you meant this to be blue font. A game like that gives the players a bit of confidence in knowing they played with and should have beaten the best. We shouldn't lose another game.

Now I'd be happy with 9-4, but he needs to beat FL and Bama, starting next year.

First people complain that he doesn't have any significant wins, then beats a very good USCe team that finished the season ranked 13th. And then people complain about not beating any 'real' teams or rivals, then we beat a ranked Georgia. And people are still complaining. I believe, besides the final series vs Florida, that was a very well coached game. Bama was a very well coached game. We're literally a good fieldgoal kicker away from winning the Florida game and likely the bama game too.

I've always said 2016 was the year we would see what Jones could really do. I believed it would take until then with recruiting for him to fully establish "his team" and get the depth necessary to compete in the SEC. Some people here have the instant gratification mentality and no patience. Sure I'm disappointed we haven't finished close games we were winning. But I'm still happy to see the improvement on the field. If Tennessee finishes 8-4 it will be a win in my opinion and I will be excited for 2016. Butch needs to finish out this recruiting class with certain pieces and hire a new staff member or 2, and next year we will see what he and his staff are made of in coaching this team to at least 10 wins and hopefully an appearance in Atlanta.

A loss to Bama hurts.... but I want to be close, this is not horseshoes.. its football. If we did not have so many injuries I believe we would have won this game, and of course of field goal attempts, no comment needed on that aspect.

No one thought we were better than Bama going in. Having a chance to win at the end was very good on our part. We do need to beat the rest of the teams we play though. Because we are better than they are. I was losing faith in Butch after Arkansas but the last two games brought me back off of the ledge. We need to win every game left (barring any catastrophic injuries) and I'm confident we can have the kind of season we need to have next year.
