Hello All, I have viewed this forum for a while and this is my first post. With the bowl season now kicking off, I've got a question that's been on my mind for several years and never asked. Why doesn't Neyland Stadium host a bowl game? I know everyone speaks well about playing in the stadium.

Well, I guess that makes since but the weather in Nashville is not that much different than Knoxville.

This was purely curiosity on my part, I've been to Shreveport, La several times and I still wonder how they pulled off a bowl game.

Nashville has no business hosting a bowl game. The world needs fewer, not more, bowls.

Yea but there are probably around 30k people in the stands for that game.... 30k in Neyland would look practically empty.

All the bigger bowls that actually "sell out" are either in a dome or are in a warmer climate.

I'm not going to beat around the bush... I don't know the answer to your question. :) But welcome to the Nation! :hi:

I do buy the weather being the biggest factor.

Plus, I'm not suggesting we create more bowl games. Heck, I think we can do with fewer as well. You can eliminate some of them like the Nashville and Shreveport bowls.

And I would love to see the Titans in Neyland.

Neyland would be a great venue for a bowl game. I agree that weather has a lot to do with it.

That said, weather hasn't stopped Detroit from hosting the Motor City Bowl. I wonder how Florida Atlantic fans feel about making that trip. The current forecast for Detroit shows a high of 36 on game day (12/26)! I guess they're probably happy to be in a bowl.

Hope we're back in the bowl mix next year!

Neyland is awesome when full of Vol fans. Very few match ups would come close to a sell out even in good weather. Neyland is made for Fall afternoon's and Vol games, that is about it.

It would be nice to see 2 big time schools come play in our backyard. While we are playing in our own BCS bowl in the near future.

Is the Motor City Bowl not in a dome?

That would be miserable outside

could you imagine a Titans/Colts game in Neyland with Manning playing there for the first time since 97!...that game would be nuts even though i'm not really a fan of either team ( i gotta stay true to my cowboys) but i'd still pay to go to that one!

Outside of Boise State and the Rose bowl, isn't it rare for a bowl to be played on a college or universities field.

The weather

Actually that isn't the real reason. Weather is only marginably better, sometimes not, in Memphis and almost always the same in Nash as in Knox. Boise also isn't subtropical, nor is El Paso, Tx., nor Birmingham.

That for sure would never happen. The Titans would be stupid to lose a home game to go to Neyland to play the Colts. With all the Manning jock sniffers in this area, it'd be a 9th home game for the Colts.

maybe the fact that they can't sell beer in neyland. that is one of those bowl game extras that draws a lot of fundage.

I Ask That Question Every Year When The Vasf Holds The Fund Raising Function For The Tri-Cities Area

Several Members Always Tell Me They Want Neyland Stadium To Be A Special Place For The University Of Tennessee Fans And Players,Not To Have Neyland Thought Of For Anything Different.

Can't Say That's Right Or Wrong

But With The Economic Conditions Now And All Of The Cutbacks At The University
Le'ts Give It A Shot

What A Boost In The Arm For Knoxville And East Tennessee It Could Be If Managed Right

Plus A Added Bonus For Tourism In Pigeon Forge,Gatlinburg Area

Hey Folks Think Of A Bowl Name And Post It Here

Here's Mine

If Kiffin is sucessful, and I predict he will be, we will see UT play Southern Cal down the road on a home and home basis. Now that will be one for the Game-Day crew.
