Questions/Information for those attending the SECCG in Atlanta

I read this entire thread (i gotta find a hobby) and although the MARTA and hotel talk were beaten to death like a (insert appropriate metaphore here) I will look forward to seeing you fellow Volunteers at the CNN center for some adult beveraggggez. GO VOLS!!!:)
VOLinNC, welcome to the board.

What part of NC you coming from?

Are we Home or Visitors? Orange or White jerseys? Anyone heard?

I haven't seen anything official on this but there has been much discussion in other threads. The consensus is that Tennessee will be in orange. Even if we are designated the visiting team, LSU prefers it's white jerseys.

I wonder if Jocks and Jills will run their shuttle service to the game? They do it for all Braves home games. It is, by far, the best way to go to the game in ATL.

Yeh that's what I was thinking but on the previous page someone was asking if they would have a shuttle from the CNN center. It's only about a 5 minute walk.

Well, thought I would jump in on the MARTA topic with my experiences...2 SECCG's and 1 Superbowl...No problems. The only exception, a buddy of my brother's was detained for drinking alcohol on the MARTA. Remember, Don't drink and Ride! GO VOLS!!!

I come from Chatt. so we usually use the Hamilton Holmes station. GO VOLS!!!!

Is that easy to get in and out of? I lived in ATL for 3 years and rode MARTA a good bit, but I have never been out there. That would actually be the simplest way as far as the train ride goes. No train switching and the ride can't be more than 10-15 minutes.

Where is a good place to park to make it to the game? THe guy I'm going with has the LSAT so we're not getting to the game until right at kickoff.

Where should we park???

I will say a couple of years ago after a Thrashers/Predators game, I was riding the MARTA...Braves game had just gotten out...(I'm a Braves fan, but a Preds fan first), this girl kept jumping up and down the MARTA going, "ATLANNA! WHAT? WE WON! ATLANNA! WE WON! A-L-T-L-A-N-A! ATLANNA! WE WON!" (yes, she misspelled it).

Someone goes..."The Thrashers won, too..."

The girl goes..."Nuh uh! ATLANNA WON!"

And there was the girl that tried to sell my sister a purse that she had stolen from the Lenox Square Mall (it still had the security tag on it)..."Ladies...it's my last handbag..."

Marta isn't too bad.... annoying, yes- but you are relatively safe riding it- especially during the day.

Me and several of my friends are headed down to ATL this weekend and are going to try and pick up tickets down there. Everyone here seems to pretty well think we can get some for a decent price, but just in case we don't, is there some sort of decent place we will be able to watch the game near the dome if we don't get tix?

There's Jocks and Jills in the CNN Center.

There is also a new sports bar in the area named Stats. It's located on Marietta Street just a couple blocks from the Dome. I'm assuming it will be packed, but so will Jocks-n-Jills in the CNN Center. I think J-n-J usually sets up a tent outside, so that is a good option.

For a huge metropolis. Unless you're out in Bankhead or some other hoods, ATL isn't that dangerous. I've even found the panhandlers in Atlanta to be as courteous as panhandlers can be, LOL!!

The area around the Dome is well policed and nothing bad really happens there. MARTA is hit or miss, but there will be so many people out that dwarf the seedy folks. The fear of Atlanta is for people who have never experienced NYC, Boston, DC, Chicago, or LA. Atlanta is a picnic by comparison.

qft!! I went to the SEC men's bball tournament last year, and talked with one of the coolest panhandlers I've ever met.

A friend of mine got a job at Stats and reports the the beer is mediocre and tremendously overpriced. "I wouldn't drink there if I didn't have to work there," I think he said.

Both places will be packed all afternoon before the game, that's for sure. I'm going to start drinking before I leave home just in case.
