Questions for Freak

Freak is selling our information, so you need to select it and opt out. I may delete my account because of this.
Don't do that. People will believe you. lol

It's a privacy opt-in/opt-out for ad purposes. Most all sites have them. We're supposed to be having it changed to a link instead of this obnoxious icon, but it will be first of the week before it gets done.

Well, it did have an option I had to deselect that says “Sell my data to 3rd parties” So, that means something different?

It's the way ads work. You can either stay opted in and get targeted ads or you opt out and get generic ads.

If anyone has further questions please use this thread.

I moved this over here to address it further. As per our posted privacy policy, VolNation never shares or sells your email or anything like that from the information you provided when registering. That said, if you've been on the internet long, you know the big guys like google, apple, facebook and amazon (and most other sites) track your behavior, searches, purchases, etc. I'm sure you've noticed a targeted ad before on a product you had just been searching for. That's the data that's shared across the internet and used to provide targeted ads that are of interest. It's nothing new and it's been happing for years. That's a simple explanation, but it's worth searching and reading more if it's something you're interested in.

These are on every site. Here's the one from the official UT Sports site, just as an example.

Do these targeted ads also utilize a predict-the-future algorythm?
