I'm not entirely sure where this thread's rightful home is, but Mods will certainly move where they see fit.
That being said, I just had a few questions regarding the early days of football and how things worked.
What was high school football like in the 20s and 30s? By then, college football was starting to get going and the NFL was in its early stages. Did many schools go without football, among other sports?
If so, what were college rosters like? Did many schools have players who had never really played organized ball, simply because there wasn't a team in their area?
When did athletic scholarships become the norm? How long were all the athletes paying their own way, and how long did it take for them to go from paying full tuition to having their full tuition paid (meaning full schollies instead of just partials)?
