Ok, stay with me for a second.

Per Rivals

We've got 18 recruits, 4 four stars, 14 three stars and are ranked #27 (avg. 3.22)

NC has 19 recruits, 4 four stars, 15 three stars, and are ranked #18 (avg. 3.21)

Ole Miss has 20, 4 and 16. Ranked #20 (3.2)

What's going on here?

(In b4 rivals hates us...)

I guess that is how much just one more player counts for considering how much we have moved adding just one guy before.

This is the whole reason people need to chill with the whole rankings thing. . . . People either get too bummed or excited about their ranking. It is such an imperfect system that it's pointless to get too bent out of shape over it. It doesn't matter what your class is ranked if you can't do anything with it on the field. . . I.e. Texas since 2006

Rivals weighs their point system when factoring in team ratings. A 5.7 guy counts for several more points than a 5.5 guy does. Teams also get added points for a players position within the top 250.

So, after looking at Ole Miss, they have multiple 4* guys who are rated 5.9 and 6.0. Our 4* guys are all 5.8 rated players and I think only 3 of the 4 are ranked nationally (Harris is not). They're picking up a heavy points bonus on they're 6.0's due to their national ranking in the rivals 250. Honestly, the difference is in points and it really will come down to evaluations on those guys. If we land a few of the bigger guys were in on, our ranking will shoot up. You might as well throw stars out the window with rivals' new points system.

The worst part about rankings is ESPNs are the most publicized and they are terrible. The general public may think J.Carr or JRM is garbage, when in reality they are some of our best commits.

The average stars does not necessarily affect the rivals ranking system. For each player they are given a rating like a 5.6 or 6.0 and each number corresponds to a point system. and there are additional points if you get members of the Rivals 250. So the more players the better the score. On the top of the team rankings page there is a link for the ranking system and it is listed as FAQ...hope this helps.

What's gng on is that most recruiting services are run by people who Know about as much about recruiting as the average poster on VN. It's a business, a big one, and their only objective is to sell internet subscriptions, mags, and whatever else.

It just shows how subjective it can be to worry about recruiting rankings. It would be interesting to contact rivals and find out thier explanation.

I get about as excited about rankings as I do about the BCS rankings. No sytem is perfect because if it was was, it would have been Oregon or Texas or anybody except ND. And Bama might not have made it--that is in an otherwise statistical system. I put stock in how hard these guys play when they hit that field and start winning. Just my opin:zeitung_lesen:.

Do they count the total number? I thought I heard once before they only counted the top 15 players.

A lot of players in Texas are over rated every year, Texas is always in the top 5, but it doesnt show on the field.

Our overall class is average at this point. That is the point. Butch has three weeks to change that.

And I heard Azzani say that they were just playing catch up and filling spots with guys that are interested.

I want to hear, "we are gonna blow ppl minds with som of the recruits we get is year! Eat my shat, Saban!!!" - Azzani

not an official quote of Azzani

Rankings are garbage. There are plenty of teams that have gotten top ten classes and fail to to win on the field.Thats why i like looking at recruiting classes 2 or 3 years down the road to see if they are living up to expectations.

I think the services actually do a pretty decent job - typically when you look at teams that are really talented you can go back and see classes that were highly ranked

too many people look at in specifics and you should look at it in percentages - a 4 star has a certain percentage to hit, a 3 star has a less, a low 3 star even less

so it really doesnt matter which individual actually hits or what they're ranking is - the key is just to give yourself a lot of opportunities to hit

its like sales - you don't focus on specifics - you cast a net and know a percentage will bite

Excuses turn into reasons. Agree, we need to go and get it done.
