Question on Florida suspensions

Our record in the swamp says otherwise. We've been the "better team" several times yet returned home with the loss. This is UT...with injuries/excuses...in the swamp....will believe it when I see it.

You know, I'm definitely a sunshine pumper. But I have to agree with this here. There have been times during the streak where we were better and should have whooped dat azz but we ended up playing like the football follies and lost again. So, I'm gonna be rooting like mad, but I don't have a lot of confidence with UT playing in the swamp. I do however hope we beat the everloving snot out of them. I would love it if JG were to play the whole 4th qtr because of garbage time.

Losing this game, to this Florida team at this time, would be worse than losing to Vandy. There is ZERO reason we should lose this game.

This is along my line of thinking. They have one guy (the Cleveland kid at WR) that will play on Sundays on the offensive side of the ball. That's about their scariest guy, and he needs a QB that can actually get him the ball.

This won't be popular, but I feel that our defense should bring 7 people almost every play to go after Franks. The only way a young qb lights it up is when he has time in the pocket. We should literally not let that guy have a play off.

I think a win is good, but a loss is worse. This is one of those games for Butch that if he wins, there won't be that big of a reaction, but if he loses, then it is gonna get ugly real fast.

Then thats a stupid way to think about it. Anytime we best UF, its a good win. Attrition is part of the game and is no excuse. If we beat UF in the swamp, then Butch deserves a ton of credit. If he loses, then he will deserve a ton of criticism.

All the gimmicky things they traditionally pull out of a hat like a rabbit to usually beat UT like two pick 6 TDs they got out of their system with Michigan in that loss. This will be a straight up game, no gimmicks, just playing football, UT wins convincingly IMO, it may be close but by the end UT dominates the gators in 2017.

I can think of several things that don't look promising. First, we have a relatively inexperienced QB behind an OL that has shown me little in the first two weeks. They're a year older but I'm not seeing the improvement outside of our 5star freshman.

UF will be a real step up in defense from what we've seen to date. Our DL has been a disappointment at DT, LB, and at corner. Still think it was a huge mistake not to get more reps for the youngsters. Yes, Butch said this team needed to play football and get some reps, but when the sec grind hits, fatigue, injury and inexperience can ruin yet another promising season.

Finally, it's the swamp. Every UT fan knows the history we have there. There are other reasons plus concern over coaching, but I consider these sufficient.

I dunno. The more and more people talk about how decisively we should win, the more I see us laying an egg or Florida playing lights out. Or both. Battered Vol Syndrome, I guess.

After all, it is Tennessee vs. Florida. Talk me off the ledge, please.

Hopefully we got over the mental block last year with that win. I think we win, but don't think it will be pretty and it will take a strong performance from our running game.

We are the better team in terms of players starting in this game. Florida is a broken team right now.

No reason we shouldn't beat them.

Not this time. The GaTech game showed me this year's team has the grit. The resilience. The perseverance to go down there and get it done!

Have the suspended UF players been able to practice?

No, they are suspended from the team and all team activities. Unless something drastic happens you figure they are out a good portion of the season, if the even are able to play for Florida at all. Its clearly out of the football departments control at this point.

It has been a year shy of 15 since we won in Gainesville.

Point is, past SHOULD not have an effect on this game. And UF is just a mess, even before the hurricane. I think people have quickly forgotten the dumpster fire that was going on there. We should win 100%. But of course it doesn't mean we will.

I do think UT wins saturday but I remember many on this board (myself included) thought we were going to absolutely destroy UF last year. We did end up winning by 10 comfortably but we made Appleby look like Tom Brady in the first half of last years game. UT fans predicting a win by multiple TDs may be setting themselves up for disappointment. Could see us possibly winning by 7-10. UF will be tough in the swamp as usual.

No we didn't. Appleby got his first half stats from running back screens and bubble passes..... We literally couldn't stop the screens.....

Yes...we did. Calloway had 134 yards receiving at least 100 of which came in the first half on throws down the field.

I am sorry if this offends, but there is no reason we shouldn't win by 3 touchdowns. They literally have no playmakers on offense and their run defense is horrible. We Butch runs the ball 40-50 times with our stable of backs, we should cream them.

Have you forgot who our coach is who wants to win by "RUNNING HIS SYSTEM".....

Do Vol fans forget how many times we have blown the florida game? How many times florida has played a forgettable game and YET managed to beat us anyway? How about the last time we played them in Gainesville, for starters. We find ways to screw up this game almost every year. It is typically the worst game we play--or right up there--almost every year. Last year, with our good offense and playing at home, we managed to win the freakin' game for a change. When is the last time we won in the Swamp?

On the ESPN scroll I see we are ranked 23rd and Florida 24th..they have these suspended players and guys here saying we should beat them easily. YET...they are 8 point favorites. There's a reason for that isnt there? Anyway. ..lets hope things go our way Saturday.

I hope we can get our running game going and win time of possession which we have lost in the first two games. It would be great if our offense could control the ball for over 30 minutes of the game this only helps the defense.

This could be a blowout either way. Because of all they have been through they could rally together and have a nothing to lose mentality and play out of their minds and wipe the floor with us.

OR, because of all they have been through the last few weeks they could come in already defeated, be totally flat, and let UT roll them up all day. Either scenario is possible.

The former is most likely. UT has to match the intensity.

Appleby hit three long passes, two to Callaway and one to Cleveland. Those weren't screens and bubble passes.
