Question from a Gator: Expectations for the program?

We will be rebuilding in the next couple of years. Realistically I don't see a national title in the next few years. An SEC title in 4 years or so. . . yes. And we just need to gradually improve in the next couple of years. No big jump in the standings needed. We will eventually get back to the top. Kiffin is doing a decent job with the recruiting so far and hopefully he will continue to bring them in.

I know the Vols don't want to hear this, but......As long as you have this Coach Kitten your best chance is in the middle to lower pack of the SEC.......get a new coach and move on! His past speaks for itself....

Vol fans don't want to hear it because we hate ignorance

Fortunately for the Kraft family, they weren't this dense in their approach to their latest hire. Similarly, USC seems to have done just fine with their mediocre hire.

Tim Tebow is amazing but at the same time he isn't the program.

He's not the whole program, but he is the part that wins championships. You should enjoy the rest of his college career. UF has never and will never have a better champion.

The Heisman should be his this year and should have been his last year. He's that extraordinary.

It won't transfer to the NFL, but still... it's Tebow (both on the field and off as a leader for his teammates) and not Urban who accounts for most of your recent championships.

Urban is a snot-nosed brat who will not hold a candle to either Saban or Kiffin as the league moves forward. I suspect he knows that and will turn tail and run for ND, but I hope he sticks around to take the beating he keeps inviting from Kiffin.

Thanks. I will file your opinion away for future reference.

Considering the fact that all dynasties in college football eventually fall back down to earth, I think you are a little too optimistic about UF's future. Of course, you are a gator fan, so I expect nothing less. I also think that UT has a good chance at more than one SEC title in the next decade (and with that a shot at more than 1 National Title), but as a UT fan that is what I should think.

Otherwise, I think you have a pretty good handle on the rest of the conference....

Actually truth be told, Without Tebow you do not win two titles..Next year you will face life without him and reality can be a swift hard kick in the face...I would hate to be Brantley having to step into those shoes and although a decent qb he is not even close to the level or leader Tebow is...In other words this is it...Enjoy it while it happening because all good things come to an end. :shaking2:

Hey guys, I like reading this forum because there is good traffic. I am just wondering what your expectations are under Lane Kiffin. Obviously the expectations will be low for this year and next as the program just waits for the recruits to come in. But starting in 2011, what do you think the expectations will be? For example...

-Where do you see UT ranking in the SEC during a given 5 year period of time?

-How will the Vols compare to Florida--the big-dog of the SEC right now?

-How will the Vols compare to LSU and Alabama?

-Will the talent level match or even pass what Urban has been doing in Gainesville?

Thanks guys and good luck against Alabama this week.

I predict that Kiffin will not rest until he builds a juggernaut that will rival USC's recent dominance.

As for Florida and Alabama and the rest of college football, I predict future pain at the hands of the Vols, and lots of it.

Voldad, he's from bama... you'll probably have to explain what this image is since it requires running water and all.

Sorry, I forgot.

ColoMtnBama, You might understand this better.

Tim Tebow is amazing but at the same time he isn't the program.

He is this year, and if you don't see that, well.. you are legally blind. He is the only reason that you still have any kind of number one ranking with that pitiful excuse of a schedule yuo have. Even BYU's schedule is harder that FUs.

Texas has bounced back nicely after Vince Young and Meyer is a better coach than Mack Brown and Meyer has recruited better defensive talent than Mack Brown.

Our offense will still be good...different, but good.

You offense isn't that good this year. without timmy, ya'll are average at best. You'd probably have 2 losses. And of course without zebra intervention...

But the thing people overlook with us is defense. Meyer has recruited some amazing defensive talent and he is continuing that so even if the offense takes a step back with Brantley, the defense will be better and will still be dominant.
And Meyer will continue to recruit the explosive playmakers that make any offense go. The state of Florida is full of amazing skill position players and Florida will get their share of them. Florida will never have a "bad" offense like Alabama had last year but as long as Meyer is in town I expect our defense to be right up there with the best of them in the NCAA simply because Meyer is recruiting amazing talent.

I don't think ANYBODY has overlooked FU's defense this year. That is all that has kept you in most of the games you have played this year. As far as talent, you are spot on. Florida is full of it. I know, I live here. That is why I don't really think urbie is all that when it comes to being a great recruiter. It's kind of like being a pretty woman in Kiev... it just isn't that difficult. If he had to go out to California and other states, and come up with the talent he comes up with, I'd be impressed. But, he can find 4 star talent on less than half a tank of gas in his Hummer.

Miami improving will hurt the Gators in recruiting. UF has not had to work very hard to keep in state recruits from Miami and FSU lately. FSU is a mess but Miami looks like they might soon be a recruiting challenger. The UT staff has proven they can pull players from the state of Florida. I think by 2011 things will even out quite a bit between UT and UF. UGA is an unknown because they may be in the first year of a new coaching staff by then.

I hate it but this is totally correct.

But UF is a dynasty that knows no end - other than that short century prior to 1993 and the couple of years 1997 through 2005.

I was about to say something along the lines of how the only dynasty really out there in awhile is USC, but then I remember they keep losing games they shouldn't.

Really, the days of dynasties are over. Best you can hope for is to maintain competitiveness and hope for some solid streaks, like the one UF has been on since 2006.

Now, not saying its okay to slide like UT has, but when that happens, you do what you need to do to get back in the mix, and UT finally pulled the trigger on that.

Can you imagine this joint if Fulmer were still the coach? Even if the season had gone identically to the one you are experiencing right now? You'd have needed a "don't commit suicide" forum for the fans.

There would have been 10,000 empty seats for the UGA game.

So when do you envision the trolls going back to their own fan sites? Just curious...

I still think people's expectations for next year are way too high. We will be very young in some key spots. I view 2011 as a break out year.

Everybody keeps saying 2011. The schedule is brutalistic. I look for 1-2 more losses in 2011 than in 2010. Maybe 2012 is magic!

If we come out great in 2011 we will have to be serious road warriors!!! Could be like '95 or '97. Those were very good years with the exception of one game.
