Question for VN Doctors

My father was recently diagnosed with Sleep Apnia. He went in for the overnight testing and they told him he needed to come back and try the machine that forces your air passageways open at night. He really doesn't have the money right now and says he didn't need it. Is this serious?

Not a doctor. But have sleep apnea. There are degrees of seriousness with the apnea. He could have a mild version or a very serious version. Does he have insurance? They should pay for most of it. If not, I am pretty sure you can buy a machine outright for less than a $1000. Just my 2 cents.

He has insurance but just spent $1000 to do the overnight testing. So, he's kind of out of money.

I am sorry to hear about that. Hopefully the doctors and insurance companies will work with your father to overcome the obstacle.

We received bad news today to. My brother's youngest son who is 3 years old had a seizure on Sunday night while asleep. My brother went in to check on them before he went to bed and noticed that his lips were blue and he wasn't breathing. They immediately took him the emergency room. Today they went to see the Neurologist (sp) in Memphis and they informed them that he has Abnormal Brain Activity that only occurs while he is asleep. I pray that everything will be OK. If you guys get a min I ask that you keep him in your thoughts. It's scary because he is so young, but the Lord will take care of him I do know that.

I am really sorry to hear about your nephew, Mike. I have a 3 year old and I can only imagine how your brother feels. I would be freaking out.

Your brother and his son are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks Vader I really appreciate it, he needs all the support he and his wife can get. They really are great people and he is a member of the VN. Great guy, and I am sure he will glad to hear to hear that you are thinking of him. Thanks again!

I have it and it is very serious. You stop breathing at times and that cuts off oxygen to the brain. It has been known to kill people. It also causes high blood pressure and can affect the kidneys. By all means, he needs to get the machine. there are places where he can get one rent to own and pay monthly. I have slept so much better since I got mine.
