I've been getting blasted by a few people on VQ for calling out BB (as reported by multiple people) for being winded and not in the best shape.

They are saying I'm finding anything the b**** about and I'm a horrible fan. I was even called a Philadelphia type fan.

LWS said it wasn't going over well...

I thought it was worth noting and something different to talk about other than qb's suck, defending Kiffin and lack of depth.

I just found it odd multiple people noticed BB was winded and I find it unacceptable especially when he was doing team conditioning this summer.

What say you???

Personally, I don't know that anyone needs to be "called out" after 2 days of practice. Especially a freshman. JMO

I somewhat agree. But we have decided we really need these guys to step in and step it up as freshmen. So people want the info. And we should want all of it. It sucks they didn't all come in as studs and perform better out of the gate. But it's reality. I guess I'd just as soon be slapped with it now, instead of waiting til game day to see it.

I tend to be a little too optimistic sometimes, so reality checks are good for me, even when they hurt.

By calling out I pointed out it was odd and being a true frosh wasn't an excuse when he graduated HS in Dec. and has had 7 moths to get in shape.

The number one recruit in the nation isn't and average frosh IMO.

I see your point though I just thought it was worth talking about, but maybe it isn't.

I'm not there and on top of things so I don't know what the actual issue is. Is it possible that he's just working so hard at everything he does, that he's winded from not pacing himself? Tuesday we heard he looked great. Why the change overnight?

Go Vols.

Maybe he's just pushing himself really hard, and that's what made him winded?

I think we WANT to see our players get tired in practice. That means they are working really hard. If they WEREN'T getting tired, that means they aren't working hard enough.

Let's see...High school football in Kansas...compared to big time football under arguably the most intense group of coaches in the #1 conference in the nation.

I'm sure it's a hell of an awakening, and you have to imagine some kids react differently than others. CLK said himself that they were essentially pushing these kids to the limit.

...Whether or not they were going off the razor's edge is to be determined.

I'm sure he'll be fine as the season rolls along.

That's a fair point.

Took the words out of my mouth. Sounds to me like he is giving 110%, also being from KS he probably isn't used to the 90-100 degree heat and humidity. Even Chris Walker said he was winded and had to pull himself out a few plays, why aren't we jumping on him?:peace2:

Does anyone else think it is silly that we are concerned about RB's not performing with marathon conditioning when no one including Hardesty will be asked to touch the ball as much in a game as they are being asked to in practice?

Oku, Poole, Brown and Hardesty. Even with two back sets (which we will not be running most of the time IMO) they will not be going full bore for three hours.

Finally if you have ever been close to the inside of a program you know that it is traditional for freshman, especially highly touted ones, to get broken down by the veteran players. You are trying to instill team instead of individual and you are trying to keep the young bloods ego in check. Jamal Lewis was called Jamal who over and over during this point of his freshman year on purpose to tell him that he and Stephens and Henry were just freshmen. I knew he was special and I told him so in late August before a down was played and he was very appreciative because it does wear you down.

E Berry has been kinder to J Jackson than many players in his position would be, but that is his personality. As beastly as M Hughes has been, I do not think Wes Brown will tell him he is better than he was at that stage, I think he will say, on two bum knees I am outplaying you every time Hughes slacks a bit.

Do not worry about this report on Brown. He will be fine and the team will be much better than last year. Think 8 wins realistically, pray for 9 and cry in joy and disbelief if we get 10.

Good post but what were they supposed to call him? :)

I would think the whole team would be winded because of the intensity of the practice

yeah I was about to say maybe hes giving it his absolute ALL EVERY single play whether he gets the ball or not because he is trying to win a starting posistion. and THAT is why he was winded

If we get ten wins I'll go up to Knoxville and build a commemorative statue by myself.

All that was said was that he was winded during a drill. Give the guy a break. Nobody is comparing him LenDale White or anything; it was just noted that he was winded during a drill. I'm sure a lot of players are...it's only natural to get winded when you're doing things full speed.

Some of you fans are a little over the top. What's next? Sending BB death threats?

LenDale White is in the best shape of his life. Id BB has White's college career and sets UT's all-time TD mark as White did at 'SC that will be a very good thing.

I got winded reading this post

No kidding, what a stupid thread.
let me get this straight you form an opinion about an 18 year old kid that because he breathing hard in a video you saw
you think he is out of shape and it is inexcusable, never mind that summer workouts are summer workouts and training camp is different than that.
then you post your opinion on a message board in which people think you are crazy being the second day of practice
then you come on here, another message board and complain.
