The internet has been a dead end for me. What awards, if any, did James Berry win while at Tennessee? Would've been the 1978-1981 seasons. Thanks, and Go Vols!

And btw, calling you the “older fans” isn't an insult. Just means you're more wiser! 😉

Nothing National or league wise unless it was possibly scholastic.

Could have won something at a team banquet I guess.

I do not remember him earning any rewards. Neither did Daniels, who he shared the backfield with. Both were highly rated recruits.

Did they have participation awards or perfect attendance awards back then?

If there were, nobody heard about them.

I do not recall James winning any awards. I d remember as a freshman, he and Hubert Simpson were taking away reps from a couple of upper classmen. And I seem to remember (somebody correct me if I am wrong) one of them was named Frank Fox or Foxx. Of course, this was still early in Johnny Majors tenure, and there was still much to do in the rebuild. But it was still a good time to be a Vol's fan.

Edit: I just checked the past roster. The 2 upper class RBs were Frank Foxx, and Kelsey Finch.

I guess I qualify as an “older fan”. I’m 66. I don’t remember him winning an award. But he was a solid player.

19 touchdowns and 2000+ all purpose yards.
Solid dude from the stats - I would have taken him on any of the past few years' squads.

Well I was 19 in 1978 so I guess I'm an older fan. However I was in the US Air Force from 1978 to 1984 and was overseas so I missed a lot of what was happening with the Vols . Even missed getting to see my Dad ride the Tennessee Walking Horse at the Georgia Tech game in 1979.

James Berry was a solid running back on the 8-4 1981 Tennessee football team but he never won any awards.
