Question for Medical Professionals about Trey Smith

I know little in regards to his condition or medicine in general, but I’ve seen several people wonder if he will come back from this.

Is there any physical reason as to why he wouldn’t? They caught it before it could do any damage to his lungs, and doesn’t exercise reduce you chances of a clot related incident?

Just curious to see someone’s take that has done more than watch House....Does he have Lupus?

He's been exercising strenuously and working hard since the spring to get in good cardiovascular condition-----and the clots still continued to develop--in his lungs....Pharmacist here for 26 years....

There are better oral anticoagulants now--Eliquis, Xarelto, etc..etc....that do not require consistent monitoring...However, the risks from collisions in football too high for developing CVAs...

One single concussion while on those medications---subdural hematoma, subarachnoid hemorrhages, CVA, could make him an invalid or kill him with the complications....

4th year Med student here. He may have an inherited blood disorder that predisposes him to clots, or it could be another disorder that causes easier coagulation. Regardless, if he has to be on blood thinners he cannot play a contact sport as any bleeding could be deadly, especially internal.

Just for note they ruled out it being inherited.

Note: I am not privy to any of his specific medical information. More than likely, he will be on anticoagulant therapy indefinitely. Due to the risks of life-threatening hemorrhage while on such medication, he would be unable to play any type of collision sports.
