Why do we not make the entire endzones checkerboard anymore? If I remember correctly they were completely covered when they had turf.

I personally like the entire endzones covered a little better.

What do you think?

i think i heard on ESPN a while ago that we weren't allowed to. i think because they wanted the lines marked clearly (endzone lines) and not have them attached to the checkerboard. but i like them how they are

Thanks for the info. I have been curious as to why the change.

They werent completely checkered. It was a lot like it is now, only, what is now green was orange then. I think this is what it was. i dont understand how the lines werent clear. The WHITE goal line met the ORANGE endzone. Who knows.:ermm:

This is precisely the right answer.

I wonder what the rules would be to painting the whole field in checker orange? If Boise can have a blue field, couldn't we have orange?

IMO it looks better to have the green border with a tighter checkerboard. a few schools now also do the checkerboard that reaches nearly to the end lines, and it looks kind of high school-ish. Navy and Fresno State come to mind of having checkerboard endzones that go all the way to the edge.

This is correct. If I am not mistaken, there must be either three or four feet of unpainted field adjacent to all four lines of the endzone for better visualization of the white lines.

I have heard the same thing. I personally like the way they look now.

I think the endzone looks awesome with the green edge, it makes the checkers stand out that much more.

Boise is grandfathered in, you aren't allowed to have anything but green anymore.

Boise pisses me off - if they have a blue field they should have to were white jersey's at home....

I'd like to see them play oregon again - they'd get punched in the face...sans blount...
