In the 90's we had one of the best in the country (at least that's what I heard). I remember hearing on the radio that the three best in the country were at TN, Nebraska, and the Giants. Who was that guy, where is he at now, and who is our current strength coach? I'm not saying the guy we have now is not good, just wondering what happened to the other guy.

John Stuckey was that guy. He went on a medical leave of absence during 1999 and was never able to return. He passed away a few years ago. Johnny Long was his top assistant, and was hand-picked by Stuckey as his replacement. That went very well for several years, not so much in later years. Ausmus is a former Stuckey GA and definitey the right man for the job right now.

You build great teams in the offseason and it all starts with the strength and conditioning program. Ausmus is one of the best who learned from the best. I hope he's here a long time.

Gayle Hatch had a lot to do with the success of John Stuckey. He went to four programs and all 4 won nation championships with it. He has an amazing program for athletes.

Ausmus is right where he wants to be. He is Tennessee through and through. He is originally from Campbell, Co. TN and is a UT alum. Dont think he would leave for a second, unless THEY dont want him for some reason.

He is from here in East TN and grew up about 25 minutes from campus in Campbell Co. That's where I'm from and he is still a legend there, no way he would leave his spot at UT for anywhere else. He is exactly where he wants to be and will be here until someone runs him off.

I highly doubt that Ausmus will be leaving for USC. USC already has the second best, if not the best strength coach in Carlisle. Ausmus was a GA under Carlisle and I believe he is good for UT as well.

Thanks for the information. Its sad to hear about him passing away though. Look forward to many good years with Ausmus.

You're right. Many games are won and lost in the offseason.
