I was wondering but is it just me or does it feel like the Volunteer state is becoming a state that you can come to to get BCS talent. It seems like every year Tennessee is getting better and better. If not, is there a way that we can make the state a better place to recruit like getting rid of TSSAA rules (like dead period) or something? Thanks Ill hang up and listen.

Without any numbers to back up my statement, it definitely seems that there has been a steady increase in talent in the state. However, I can think of a lot of players in state that weren't exactly highly ranked who went on to have good to great careers. Overall, I think the talent in the state is underrated.

this year we had a five start and like 9 four stars...granted we could not land most of them...it does tell you something about rating system

not sure you understand how TSSAA works. The high schools make up the TSSAA. The H.S. tell them what rules they want and the TSSAA administers the rules.

It is getting better. I think it can be partly attributed to population increase in the state, but also to better high school coaching and training.

We'll see how the talent ebbs and flows in the future, but when we consistently see FBS caliber D-Linemen being produced here we can really build from within the state.

SN: Mark Elder should really help us repair our relationships instate.

Nobody take this the wrong way, but. We are a "whiter" state than the likes of Georgia and Florida.

I think our talent has been underrated for a long time. I'm sure there's a lot of guys I missed, but look at this list of names, and tell me they would have made a huge difference on how we remember the last 10 years of UT football:

Barrett Jones-Alabama

Patrick Willis-Ole Miss

Michael Oher-Ole Miss

Golden Tate-Notre Dame

Harrison Smith-Notre Dame

Dont'a Hightower-Alabama

Dontari Poe-Memphis

First, Tennessee's population is growing faster than many other states, so the number of elite prospects is going to increase.

Secondly, there are about 8-10 elite prospects that can play at the BCS level that will come out of Tennessee high schools most every year.

I would say the number is much higher than that if you are just talking about kids that can play at the BCS level.

We had two TN natives go in the first round of the draft last year alone (Harrison Smith and Dont'a Hightower).

One of the problems we have is that the western part of the state is closer to other FBS Schools than to UT, therefore you have kids going to the likes of Ole Miss and Mississippi State than to UT.

Actually, I forgot Poe. So we had 3 TN natives go in the first round last year alone.

I have to admit that there's a difference in a Tennessee kid looking fast vs. Georgia or Florida fast.

States by population:

1. CA
2. TX
4. FL
8. GA

So each of the four best recruiting states in the nation are in the top ten in population.

3 of them are in the top 4.

The odd ball being GA. Which is most likely a product of the racial makeup of the state. As a former slave state, it's a lot blacker than the other states ahead of it in population.

In a dream world! TSSAA is mini-NCAA
Nazi/commie rule

The Knoxville area had 3 players in the GB-MN game last night...Catholic, Alcoa, Sequoyah.

I hate this excuse. This is BS. And nothing towards you, but this is not the case.

30% of the state of Georgia is African American. While only 16% of Tennessee is African American.

Therefore GA has a higher percentage of putting out talent.

Take a look at the top 100 recruits on Rivals, I'm pretty sure 90% is African American.

Folks, we can make up all the excuses we want of why we have not got this player or that player in our own state. The bottom line is we haven't had a group that put a full effort to lock down this state. We get a few here and there but the ELITE seem to leave because the recruiting at UT has been soft for a long time. If we had just shut down our state all this time we would have never been in the shape we have been infor a while.

Bama has come to our state and took our elite talent and won wit it. But most of all, their roster is stuffed with home state kids. That is exactly what has to happen in TN. No elite to bama or usc or Florida. Keep them home and we can win
