Heupel's claim to fame is his offenses. His offense features various Air Raid, run and shoot and veer and shoot concepts. Often times it is compared to Art Briles offense at Baylor, which was effective and is supposed to get the ball to your playmakers. Everything I just said was what I found on a google search. Can someone explain to me what to expect with that type of offense? Are we going to look like Florida under Spurs with the Fun 'n' gun?

Thanks. Such an obvious solution I am ashamed I did not think of it.

I will add Heupel did pursue Milton and stated he would be a good fit for his style of offense. I truly feel Milton left Michigan because of Harbaughs run heavy RPO type offense for which he was a poor fit. It will be interesting to see if the pieces come together and Milton is the perfect fit for Heupel.

Many teams play with tempo, but CJH's is on another level.

He forces teams to keep their same defensive personnel on the field by having to line up so quickly before the ball is snapped. This is really how he tries to exploit matchups to our advantage as well as hit explosive plays when defensive players arent lined up correctly. This isn't limited to the passing game either, you'll see plenty of quick long run inside zone plays where our RB will be to the second level of the defense before the defense realizes what is going on...

Because of this style of tempo, his offenses have also been really good at drawing defenses offsides, and catching players running on/off the field which causes penalties.

Thank you so much. Going back to my original question, is it crazy this kind of reminds me of the fun 'n' gun. I am not complaining, as much as I hated Florida in the 90s I always found their offense fun to watch.

Agreed

Theres a reason no QB has played well under Harbaugh at Michigan. That outdated system sucks bad. This one is very QB friendly.

Just read an interview Herbstreit gave on the Ainge show. He said Heuple's offense is based on the Baylor offense from a few yrs ago and its not the air raid people think. Its 2 pronged, they spread you out which actually opens up running lanes more than passing lanes and forces the defense to put more players closer to line of scrimmage which then opens up passing. Said passing/running stats usually about equal. Defense has to pick their poison.

Said the only D's that have success controlling this offense are the ones that can control the line of scrimmage with a minimum of 5 guys. Guess we will see for ourselves how it works soon.

I'm a nerd who has coached for the last 35 years. Watching UCF film, this offense has elements of inside/outside zone, the Wing T, Bill Walsh's West Coast offense, the Air Raid, and old USC power sweeps. The field is stretched vertically and horizontally, a LB and S always seem to wind up out of position, and chunk plays are common. This should be fun to watch at the very least.

We’re going to run the ball quite a lot. Lots of counters and use of a H-Back. I like it, seems balanced and should create one on ones for our speedsters

I'm not completely sure we know yet. Heupel has evolved over the last 10 years. What he does now isn't what he did at OU. I believe he said that he continually looks to improve his system and has specifically said that he tailors it to his talent.

I don't think his last QB at UCF was the kind of rushing asset that he has in Hooker or Milton. He threw deep accurately but did not have the pure arm strength of any of UT's QB's.

I'm not sure it's going to be the exact offense. Our personnel are a bit different then what he had at UCF.
Yep. Not the exact, but OP wanted to see what his offense is like. Looking at previous footage will get you as close as you can until you see it this year.

I agree with Herbie on that one.
It's pretty similar to the one the Bowling Green ran when UT played them in '15. They had receivers lined out wide almost touching the sideline. It forced UT to spread their defense out so far that they had wide open running lanes if the DL and middle backer couldn't get off their blocks or reestablish the LOS. I'm getting excited, but tempering my expectations.😂😂
