Question About LSU Player Throwing Helmet

The 13 on the field would have been half the distance and then the 15 would have been assesed. It should have been one untimed down from the 16yd line if my interpertation of the rule is correct.

Actually if the flag was called for unsportsmanlike conduct, it would have been a dead ball personal foul. Our too many men on the field penalty would have stood, but LSU's penalty would have been a dead ball 15 yard penalty from the spot of the play. Thus resulting in LSU having to run their final untimed play from the 16 rather than the 2

I just watched it again. There was no time on the clock when the LSU player threw his helmet.

But the game was deemed not over due to a foul on the orange team. Did he not throw the helmet while there was still a scramble on the ground....the ref was running up toward the mad scramble.

The refs didn't throw the flag because no time was left & the game was essentially over but if u review the illegal participation then the helmet throw is into play & should be assessed especially since the play was ongoing. They should have thrown a flag, then reviewed the other IMO & at leas it would be offsetting.

I thought time expired when he threw the helmet and LSU QB covered the ball

how can this be blamed on our coach? If you see the replay, he had the right number coming in and out, then for some reason two guys ran back midway through.

Although I would agree that they should have just left the guys in, they wouldn't have gotten a play in anyway.

LSU coach is worst in game management

4 run in, 3 run off. One of the 3 turns around and heads back. We were going to have 12 men due to the substitutions anyway.

Inexcusable.

Look, here's the thing anyways: It shouldn't have come down to some player throwing his helmet or not. We had the win, and the coaches blew it with a bad 4th & long call, terrible job mananging the clock on offense, and Chaney being a damn idiot.

it would have been offsetting penalties and reply anyway

Actually our penalty would have been before the snap, while LSU's was after the play so our penalty would have counted for five yards and theirs for 15. Subtract the two and you get 10 yards so I stand corrected from my previous statement. LSU would have had the ball at the 12

Loving the hyperbole here. Play the number 10 team in the country to the last play of the game when you're 16 point underdogs, screw up and suddenly you're the worst game manager of all time. You people need to calm the hell down.

Vandy would play FL close if they got 4 turnovers

the way i see it there are two possible situations:
1. Offsetting replay from the 2 instead of the 1... let me tell you he does not score if that is from the 2 yard line
2. Move back to the 16 due to dead ball penalty... LSU's complete incompetence passing the ball makes me think that favors us

I just wish there was some type of recourse for such an egregious error. They had 2 penalties: 1. switching players on an offensive line and 2. unsportsmanlike penalty-throwing the helmet. Would they ever consider over turning the win when the referrees are to be in error?

It doesn't matter. When there are multiple LSU players throwing their helmets it has to be called. They were intent on enforcing the rules at the end and we got screwed. This is not an excuse, it's a fact.

Ok - then Tennessee should be flagged for excessive celebration for rushing the field and taking their helmets. The game was assumed to be over by everyone on the field. Anyone thinking that should have been penalized is grasping (again). Come on guys, it was a hurtful loss for us, but let's not act like the fans of teams we hate.

Fcsecfootball, am I wrong or was there a mad scramble going on for the ball when the first helmet got thrown? The play was not yet whistled dead.

Rivals.com College Football - Winners and losers: LSU handed gift victory

Yea, at the :32 sec mark of the video, the LSU player (#53) pulled off and threw his helmet while everyone was still scrambling for the live ball, but I still think the refs would have called it offsetting. Regardless, WE are the ones that had 13 men on the field!!!!!

Seems to me that the appeal would be that the penalties should have BOTH been enforced. I would then argue that since it is impossible to replay that down (as should have been done), and since neither penalty affected the play itself, the game should be declared complete at that time. But, if I were coach, I would offer to have our team replay that down.

That pic doesn't really help the cause much since we've got 2 players and a coach coming off the sideline onto the field.

thank you. the fact that we were in the game just goes to show that Dooley did a great job with the planning of this. look at all the threads before the game and how many people were saying "im sure itll be a game that has to come down to the last play"? nobody was. we need to pick ourselves up and play a good game next week which is much more winnable looking forward then today's game.
