I'm a diehard Volunteer fan no doubt, but there is a question I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on. I know the big news is getting Kiffin here and wondering how things will turn out with him, but my question is do any of you think Mark Richt is going to be coming under some fire in the near future even though he has been winning 10 games each year... while that is impressive he has still only beat Florida once, lost to GA tech today, and it just seems like Georgia has turned into the Vols of the 90s meaning they keep winning 9-10 games, but just can't get over that hump to a championship. I mean this was supposed to be THEIR year...

Any thoughts or comments?

Thanks

I think that richt will be fine as long as he keeps winning 10 games a year. However, if he does stumble, like Fulmer did, and have a couple of losing seasons within a 2 or 3 year stretch, we may see some new blood in Athens. I believe he would get snatched up pretty quickly by someone if he was let go. You are right in that Georgia is alot like UT of the 90's in that they just can't get over the hump. With Kiffin and crew coming in, I hope their good fortune has run its course. We will hear some of the Dawg fans overreact by calling for Richt's head but a win in a new years day bowl and they will be ready for next year.

I will agree on that. A couple of stumbles with the talent they have would be detrimental to the coolness of the coaching seat. Seems like it would be hard to warm the seat with 10 win seasons. Les Miles may want to have a better season next year though.

well georgia fans don't think he can win the big games, he'll come under more fire over the next few years if he doesn't beat top teams.

my brother is a UGA grad and fan, and i work with a couple as well. their general thoughts on the situation is that martinez needs to be let go. they were also riddled with injuries this season, i think i heard it was in the neighborhood of 18 starters. their offense can get the job done, their defense just leaves a little to be desired. i don't think a change will come on their D staff, though. richt and martinez have been friends for quite some time, which makes me think it would be harder for richt to let him go. i think richt is fine. he's won an SEC title within the past 5 years, he's had winning seasons, he's been in two BCS bowls, with a 1-1 record.

There may be a DC from TN with the 6th rated defense in the nation becoming available soon.

I think as soon as they have a down year, like 6-6 or 7-5, he will come under heavy criticism and the Ga fans will turn on him. It could come as soon as next year if Stafford and Moreno leave. This was suppose to be their year and once again they were good but not great.

I think getting all the players to kneel around him yesterday caused more panic than helped.

JMHO.

I live in Atlanta and the Bulldawgs love them some Mark Richt, haha.

I don't see him going anywhere-- granted, I thought the same thing this morning on my run. Richt really hasn't done anything truly special with the Bulldogs-- they are almost annually a disappointment to some respect. It seems like there have been 3 or 4 teams now under Richt that were touted to be national championship calibur that fell short.

Yeah, but the smoke job they put on Hawaii bought Rciht two years.

Well after they gave up 400 rushing yards to the triple option , My brother in law is a former RED COAT BAND member and he thinks Martinez is gone, because the defense is really weak despite the offensive line injurys suffered by the Dawgs this season, and he really thinks that Stafford is overrated, that hes trying to be Elway since Mel Kiper came out and said he has the arm of Elway!!

I suspect the SEC's resident drama queens are in crisis mode right now. The 2x4 Paul Johnson just put to the head of Leg-Humper Nation has them reeling.

Georgia in some disorder is never a bad thing for us.

Been thinking the same here. Same as Fulmer....good coach....but not winning enough. I know that sounds crazy, but it is true.

Unless the fan base there....and big donors are ok with 10 win season and no championships. I think the heat will get hotter and hotter each year.

Like some have said already, Richt is in zero trouble, some grumbling to be sure, but the same can't be said for the D-coordinator. He was already taking heat, even last years team, he seemed to catch it when Ga lost, or played poorly.
