Question about Drew Richmond

Just a quick question about Drew. I have some Ole Miss fans that are saying that Drew is upset about his lack of playing time. Is this just them being upset he is at UT or is there some merit to these claims?

This is completely false. Richmond is progressing very nicely and will be heavily in the mix for a starting spot at tackle next season. He probably has the highest upside of any lineman on our roster.

Everything easy said is correct. Richman understands that this is a process and is not upset that he is not playing this year. He is happy with the decision he has made to become a Vol and will shine for us for years to come. Kid has wonderful foot work but lacks in the strength.

He is going to be a monster when the game slows down for him and his strength matches his natural tools. Best tackle prospect we've had in many years IMO.

For anyone that has the SEC inside show recorded, go back and watch CBJ's post game speech to the team. You can see Drew in the background smiling and nodding his head while Butch is praising what the team has done. Really looks like his heart is in Oxford

The biggest mistake we all make, but especially young people is wanting it all too fast. Richmond can develop into a guy who can play on Sunday's for a long time. It just takes time. In the end, that's his goal anyway. So what if it takes a year longer.

He was initially mad about the prospect of redshirting, but as the first few weeks of the season played out, he has seen that it was the right call.

Bottom line is that Jones and Hall are playing because they were able to enroll early, do the offseason strength program and go through spring practice. That's why they are ahead of Richmond. By the time spring practice rolls around, Richmond will be in the mix. He knows that. If Richmond had been here in January, he'd likely not have redshirted.

Upset fans...Ole Miss came into West Tennessee for years to gather some good talent. It's harder for them now. Since Butch came here...not so easy anymore. :birgits_giggle:

GO VOLS!

He is going to be the left tackle on an SEC title team. Ole Miss fans can cheel.

Reminds me of how Vic Wharton acted after the big TaxSlayer win.

I'm high on Drew as well. His high school film was spectacular. Guys that big aren't supposed to move like he does. NFL scouts call them "dancing bears." That's Drew. Exceptional feet. He'll be a star LT for us next year.

Our o-line as a whole should be good. Hell it might even be a position of strength.

Great post. Honestly I'm much more concerned about the DB than O-line next year. I think our line will be quite good. Losing Randolph, Mcneil and likely Sutton is a ton of experience leaving the team.

Agreed. DB is a big concern. I trust TK and think Justin Martin will be great. But we need another corner and safety to emerge. I personally like Stephen Griffin at safety. He's really athletic and seems to have good instincts. I think he starts next to TK. Hopefully we can get highly routed recruit Nigel Warrior to be the 3rd safety.

Corner is where I'm less confident. Moseley has been a disappointment. I have no idea what we have in Miller or Abernathy. We've heard great things about Gaulden but he's not really played. Hopefully someone emerges either already on campus or thru recruiting.

DB is the only hole I see that can keep this roster from being championship worthy in 2016.

Drew will be dine. Prototypical left tackle. The NFL is full of starting O-linemen who red shirted. If he is upset, he'll get over it. Kerbyson is the only, experiwnced, 5th year senior on the O-line and they plat the same position. Doesn't seem wise to burn his redshirt in mop up duty.

I concur. This may not be a popular opinion but if Warrior shows up ready to go day 1, I wouldn't mind trying Berry at CB again.

Ole Miss fans better worry about their current team, since they just lost to MEMPHIS! Incredible!

I agree, Berry has too much speed for him not to be a starter in offense or defense!

I am not saying this because of his last name either. I certainly do not have the expertise to say which position is best for him but he has to be used more than just retuning kicks! JMO

I watched most of the first half of that game and it was absolutely hard to watch I don't remember how many penalties both teams had but it was miserable. Ole Miss , as good as they look against Alabama, look horrible today. Granted probably the number one offensive lineman is still out for them and the number one defensive lineman in the nation got hurt early and didn't play the rest of the game. And Memphis is greatly improved as well but regardless Ole Miss, Tennessee are any other SEC team should never lose to the Memphis Tigers in football...

Thanks for the insightful responses. I figured it was Ole Miss fans still being sore losers but just wanted to be sure.
