Were the supposed insiders completely fake?

Ainge from day 1 said there was zero truth to the Gruden rumors and got ripped for it. In fact, looking back he was right on the money about the whole process and the firing timeline for Butch.

Then you had other former players like Haynesworth pushing the narrative that Gruden was in play and that he had seen proof. So was someone trolling Haynesworth?

Maybe Gruden's agent was putting out fake info to get Gruden's name out there. It certainly got him a lot of hype and resulted in big money for a guy that hadn't coached in a long, long time.

This is in my opinion the reason behind it. Someone was wanting his name thrown around, the only thing that I didn't understand was who ever was pushing his name to build hype around him, why didn't they tie his name to other programs? If he was such a high profile coach with such a huge upside why wasn't other universities going after him? I am personally glad we didn't land him as a coach.

Don't you guys get it yet? A proven pathway to be a UT coach is through the Oakland Raiders. Soon. :)

MIT Beaver was the finest troll I have ever seen here in Volnation. A true professional. You also had Boro and DTO trading sweet nothings literally. I get messing with people sometimes but the subject matter and context of the coaching search counter balanced with the love I have for the Vols made me want to meet a few of these guys behind the Lebanon Waffle House for some fistacuff action.

Ainge in the cellphone text messages with Currie lost all credibility. He was asked which rumors he should start and which ones Currie wanted him to endorse. He is state-ran radio and was the mouthpiece for whatever story paid his bills.

MIT has reached a level of trolling that places him in a league of his own.

Who woulda thunk it? At least we still have the mighty works of Rodriquez Wilks and Paul Bain to hang our collective VFL hats on!

I think you have all the information you'll need about your supposed insiders. Outside of Skeeter and Fingers, we had the "Check My Stats" guy. Those three actually were / are accurate
.

LWS and Deer park are usually pretty accurate with their info.

Am I the only person on the board who has no clue WTH this MIT guy is?

He was the "supposed" insider who leaked all the Gruden into. He claimed to be connected with the boosters. It turns out he was a troll. Not just any troll, but a troll who is missing his calling in life to be a fiction writer.

How to troll 101: 7 habits of highly successful trolls

1. Create a persona and backstory with some irrelevant details

2. Make up some plausible BS that people want to hear or will piss people off depending on objective

3. Base some of the BS on already circulating rumors with some added made up twists

4. Google up some irellevant but verifiable details about the BS to add credibility, cite other rumors and sources as "proof"

5. Drop names and/or other hints about being "connected"

6. "Predict" things that have already happened, continuously evolve story

7. Stick to your story, stay cool and aloof when challenged

That is a great outline. I feel like ATL and Beav have to have that copyrighted.

Jon Gruden was a far bigger troll than any poster on volnation could ever even try to be and it's not even close. "ahh rocky top, gotta love that song man"
