Question about athletes and pot smoking...

Stressed - take a walk and/or an aspirin. Both - healthy and legal.

Amazes me how many people think they have to be high on something to have fun and enjoy life. Why risk career, family, and health over something that may cause a major problem down the road?

Not holier than thou. Been there. Left there when I woke up to the truth. My highest highs in life have come from experiences with family, friends and faith.
More people die a year overdosing on aspirin than on weed...just saying.

so all the drugs that are legal and more harmful should stay that way too?

Yup. Come on man. The people who abuse the drugs that r legal are doing just that. Abusing them. Not doing them the way they r suppose to be. The drug may be legal but they are illegally being used. Laws against that too.

Actually when I read ur response I was thinking you were referring to pills. So my response was such. I'm sorry I didn't think your argument was going to be as petty as referring to just alcohol and cigs. Gave u to much credit I reckon.

Btw - the govt would make alcohol and cigs illegal if they could. They've tried with alcohol and some places are slowly taking steps in that direction with cigs. The cat is out of the bag with those two and unable to get it back in, so they have to live with it. They can't let it out with weed cause then there will be another drug that people will want legal next. It'll never end...

BS. What facts do you have to warrant this statement?

well of course that's what you thought since availability of them has lulled the populace into believing they actually aren't dangerous drugs. The exact opposite has happened with mj and it seems you've bought into that as well. Reefer Madness!

the positions taken on both are all about money. Whether it's tax revenue or the war on drugs, someone is getting rich on both.

one other question, what group gained the most from prohibition?

They can't let it out with weed cause then there will be another drug that people will want legal next. It'll never end...

so?

Hey H8R, don't bother. Trying to convince people of the virtues of weed is like trying to convince a liberal that Obama is bad for the country. It ain't happening. There is more propaganda concerning weed than there are facts. I will keep smoking it and enjoying the hell out of my life while all the others condemn me. I don't care.

Thanks for all the answers!

One more thing. Everything I have read suggests that Pot is not habit-forming. I don't see how that's the case when these athletes have been warned over and over and over of the consequences of smoking it, that they are risking their careers and millions of dollars, and yet they continue to do it anyway. If it's not habit-forming, why on earth do these guys continue to do it??

Just because marijuana is not physically addictive does not mean that it is not habit forming. Once you do something often enough that it becomes routine, it is a habit. Bad habits are hard to break. I am in no way excusing DR's behaviour, nor am I saying that quitting marijuana is as difficult as quitting, say, heroin. Just saying that it is never easy to stop a bad habit.

Obviously pot smoking seems to be a fairly common occurance among college [students]. My question is, and please forgive my ignorance as I have never been high in my life, does pot smoking not have an adverse affect on an athlete's ability to perform at their highest level? Does it not affect their lungs like cigarettes would and cause an athlete to have breathing issues and have less endurance? Does it not dull their senses and cause them not to be as alert or reactive?

Dear former President Clinton, I fixed your post.

PS-As a high school baseball player, I played high all the time. Smoking away from the field has less effect on a player than alcohol--no hangover with weed.

so a player can cheat to get an advantage and take HGH that won't be caught in the testing that is done and they are completely okay

another player can do a recreational activity that millions of americans also do and is about as illegal to do as speeding but he gets kicked out, called a thug, and not allowed to play

it makes no sense to me in college or the NFL

i get not allowing performance enhancers but weed is certainly not a performance enhancer

You do not have to smoke it, you can eat it or the new age thing to do is vaporize it. Therefore, no harm to your lungs.
