I thought you didn't get a medical redshirt unless you applied for them, usually before your last year.

He played too much. Let me put this very simply he is a SOPHOMORE.
He had 2 catches all of last year and didnt see any action after the memphis game due to injury (and didnt even see action in all the games leading up to the memphis game). If he didnt apply for a Med. Redshirt this year he could likely get another year after his senior year if he applies for it.

If he did not apply, then Yes he can apply later. I do not believe their is a time table. It can be retro-active.

He is a sophomore. Fulmer said in an interview that the reason they didn't try to redshirt him was because they wanted him to get experience for this specific situation we're in.

Catch total doesn't matter. I can't remember how many game you can play in and get a medical redshirt(want to say less than 3), but he played in 5 games(I think it was). Too many for any red shirt.
