Quavaris Crouch question

Earl only played in the NFL from '78 thu '85 with '85 being in Nawlins. RBs only have so many hits in their body and then they go downhill pretty quick once it's reached.

My favorite RB all time.. That said Earl uses a walker now days and doesn't have much use for the 'brand' of football played in the NFL today..

The reason he came to Tennessee is that we promised to exclusively use him at LB. Clemson wanted him at RB and that is why he cooled on them. He would not be at Tennessee if we recruited him at RB. And when you have an opportunity to snag a player as talented as QC, you do it, and let him play LB. He will be a huge asset at LB.

Jason Witten changed positions in college and had a good career in the NFL
Dominique Stephenson came in as a Tailback with J Lewis, Henry & Stevens. He moved to LB and played in the NFL
Jason switched from safety to corner and did well and made it to NFL

I'm pretty sure he will get a shot to play which ever position he chooses.

Doug Matthews said that if a kid hasn't signed then the coaches are not allowed to comment on that kid. If Pruitt has made public comments on him then he is signed I would guess.

Worked out pretty well with a similar situation back in the day with Al Wilson...

Also Westmoreland and many others under papa Fulmer. It works. Period.

If we didnt land Gray, we might not have gotten Crouch. The fact that we could promise him LB put us over the top...i believe he will be an All SEC LB...maybe 1st team if he can stay healthy, or even All American. He is that talented. I live in Charlotte and played for Harding HS...but honestly dont think this us homerism...the kid was ranked a 5 star, and the number 1 RB/ athlete in the country last summer. His ankle sidelined him, but he has continued to workout and is in great shape.

Honestly, not playing more than 1 game his senior year is alot less wear and tear on his body, especially shoulders and knees...this kid is already bug enough to play at 230 or 235...he will play next year as a freshman, may end up a starter. Promise you, HS all americans dont come to sit the bench, even at places like Clemson and Bama...we are not deep at all at LB. He will start by mid season for sure as an ILB ....IMO.

Ahhhh..I had ZERO idea that was the case. As you can tell by the post. I had no idea he wanted to play LB, and the Clemson aspect on this. I had only read his Rivals, 24/7 pages. His film was all about the RB position.
No Worries. My hope is that he doesn't mind taking reps at RB or at least get the ball in his hands in some capacity. He knows that playing LB will extend his career but I don't think would mind being used on offense in certain situations either.

So, dont get alot of the same VOL coverage here in Houston as back home and I'm sure there is a good reason, but I was wondering why we recruited Crouch only to (MAYBE) move him from RB to LB? I get we need LB"s but why take a great running back (reminds me sort of of Derrick Henry type), recruit the heck out of him and move him to a alternate position? I know its been done before but this guy looks like a legit RB to me.

He prefers LB and RBs have a short shelf life in the NFL (except for Frank Gore).

LB is more of a position of need for Tennessee too.

Watching his film, I can't wait for him to scoop up a fumble or intercept a pass. Oskie , Oskie!!! Kid can take it to the house.

I can't make up my mind where I think he plays.

ILB would be good. But he has the potential to be a monster pass rusher. 15 or more sacks a year type talent. Because of his size and speed. He's rb fast with a LB body.

Adding Gray at RB was a big time get for UT (Depth looks solid at RB). Pruitt must believe Crouch can help us earlier at LB.

We don't have anyone like Crouch in our RB group. His combination of size, power, and speed sets him apart. However, he has indicated, due to the reasons of longevity, that he wants to try LB. I would be shocked if we don't have some limited packages for him at RB, and as a receiver out of the backfield. He was Rivals No. 1 national recruit at any position when the season started; however, injuries caused him to miss all but 2 games, and he dropped down to No. 30 going from a 5* to a 4*.

Pruitt would never offer a recruit the chance to play LB unless he believed the kid had a real shot at it and I firmly believe he does. It would not surprise me though if some RB packages were not offered to him either.

Al Wilson was the exact same way.... He was an unbelievable running back in high school.... Worked out pretty good for him.

We recruited the hell out of Henry and he did not want to come here. Crouch is a smart player and knows that the lifetime of a LB is longer in the NFL than a RB. He was hurt as a RB in HS and miss almost an entire season. If we wanted him to be a VOL, we did what was necessary. If he fails at LB, which I don't think will ever happen, he can play a few downs at RB when necessary. I think he has AA talent at LB and expect he plays there 99% of the time.

Agree. With his speed I actually like him at outside linebacker. RB's can't turn the corner on that dude.

He wants to play LB and Pruitt told him he would get a fair shake at LB.

Watch the kids defensive highlights. I'm sure he can play either one.

His RB tape is a bit misleading considering how often he wasn't even touched. No one does that in the SEC.
