Quarterback Career Stats

Yep, J. Smith sucks as a receiver; glad we haven't played him based on his performances last year, said no one ever this year. Vol fans are hoping he gets back in. I have zero preference for either QB. I hope one of them gets HOT and lights it up.

Great observation. Coincidentally, it was J Smith who dropped some major passes from Peterman that really screwed up some opportunities. J Smith expressed regret about it. Yet J Smith has settled down and become a really good receiver.

Peterman is willing to keep the ball. This will keep the defense from keying on the qb like they do with a qb who never runs like Worley. This will also take some heat off the oline. Dobbs has more game experience, but not with this particular offense.

Regardless of who starts, we should be positive and support him. Threads with this kind of negative attitude are NOT helpful in any way.

Do I think we will win? Probably not...but why even start a thread like this? It's almost like some people want to lose, rather than supporting their team.

Ask him this ask him that... Im not sure we wouldve won the first and second game with peterman. Nobodys asking peterman to come in and look like peyton, just make a play, not a touchdown or 5 touchdowns. Just a good play against someone other than UTC.

38 minutes compared to however many games dobbs played last season, this is the arguement huh? We will see about that.

Dobbs has a presence and a confindent composure throughout a mess of horrible team performance last year, yet he kept throwing passes and making positive runs for yardage. (trying/effort)

I dont want nate to dominate, I just WANT him to show somebody he is a QB and deserves to be one(trying/effort). Just a one or two good passes that makes someone think hey he is a QB. Dobbs played bad last year, but he played against Mizzou and had 28 completions, and made some plays.

Lets see just a flash of that from Nate, and I will shutup. As of now, he's shown nothing, which gives me no reason to think that he is a good fit for the job over Dobbs. What has he done people? Please tell me?

(a) Put him in a reasonable situation where he can succeed before judging him. 38 minutes with 15 of those minutes playing Florida with a broken thumb is not a reasonable situation.

(b) Go back and watch the hundreds of throws in summer competition. Peterman was noticeably better than Worley and far better than Dobbs. Peterman was downright scary accurate and the only one who could hit the long ball. This is exactly why Dobbs is red-shirting and Peterman was promoted.

(c) Peterman is a consensus four star QB rating by expert talent scouts. It's simply silly to ignore this based on his brief play with a broken hand and no offensive line.

I don't think throwing Peterman to the lions again is a good idea. I think he should be developed.

Yet you simply condemn him. And it's very telling you have been Dobbs Dobbs dobbs this whole time even though Nate will be the starter of the 2. Yet you have not said anything positive to show you're behind the kid and it's always gone back to dobbs with you and show you are just hoping for Peterman to fail.

I'm not condemning Nathan, I've critiqued his performances to date. Absolutely nothing against the kid. I'm a UT fan and alumnus and want them to win no matter what. If he starts and plays tomorrow I'll be pulling for him to do great, I'll be hoping the lights come on for him, that he's able to control his emotions and make plays for favorite football team. That's it. Period. What I've expressed on here is my concern that he's not the better choice compared to Dobbs based on what I saw from him last year and what I've seen from Nathan in 4 game appearances last year and 3 so far this you.

You'll certainly not believe this, but I'll be thrilled if Nathan can turn it around and lead this team to 3 wins and a bowl if Worley is done. More than anything else, I want my team to have an effective, competent qb. I just haven't seen any evidence that he's that guy.

So Worley is hurt, and out. For how long is yet to be determined. No surprise. Quite a few VN posters predicted that either the Ole Miss or Bama defense would put him on the sideline. That was all but a given with this OL.

Peterman or Dobbs. For this game, it doesn't really matter. This is all about finding the right QB for any remaining games where Worley is not able to play. This game, sadly, is little more than an audition.

This game is 9 to 1 in Bama's favor. There's always a chance. It is what it is. Let's hope that our choice of QB going down the road is not made for us by the Bama defense.

Still...Go Vols.

I just haven't seen any evidence that he's that guy.

No evidence?
1) Four star rating by expert talent scouts.
2) Clearly won the summer QB passing competition easily taking the 2nd position from Dobbs - and outperforming Worley.

Fact is, you have completely dismissed and denounced Peterman based on a mere 38 minutes playing time under the most harsh conditions - including 15 minutes with a broken hand. You even attacked his mental competence in previous posts. Completely unjustified.

When confronted with the facts, you offer patronizing words about Peterman and answer nothing.

I understand it is natural for the backup QB(s) to be insanely popular....especially when the offense is struggling. What I don't understand is the belief that Dobbs is this extremely athletic QB. He popped off 2 or 3 runs last year.....in 4 games!!!! Athletically speaking he and Peterman move about the same. I don't think either of the 2 are world beaters, and if Worley doesn't play it will probably be a looooooong night. I am thinking more and more, we will be breaking in 1 or 2 true Freshmen QB's next year.

I recall Dobbs actually running vertically, whereas Peterman seems to run straight into the ground.

If Peterman plays the whole game, there's a good chance Worley will return against SCAR and Dobbs' RS isn't squandered on a long-shot.

If Dobbs comes in, Worley's probably done for most or all of the season.

Worley's confidence has taken a beating along with his body, so he might not have been all that effective, anyway. Out of three decently-rated, game-tested QBs, surely at least one can turn in an average performance the rest of the season.

Yea Saban said Coker would play the against W.Va but didn't play. It's coach speak to get both guys ready. Do you honestly think if by some chance Peterman goes for 150 yards, 2TD's, no turnovers beesome chance Peterman goes for 150 yards, 2TD's, no turnovers n efficient at QB by halftime that Dobbs would start the second half? Would bet a yrs salary that he wouldnt. You don't tell Dobbs he isn't playing unless he absolutely has to, changed your mindset on practice and everything else. Butch knows if Nate sucks it up or gets hurt he needs Dobbs to be mentally ready.
Ha. I needed the laugh.

You're using an eye test from last year. Peterman is still mobile and all reports say that Dobbs accuracy is not where it needs to be. I personally believe Peterman suffers from lack of game time. He just doesn't seem to make the reads fast enough. Similar to Worley when he first took over

Peterman seems to suffer from the fact that he sucks that is about it. No amount of game time is going to help him. He holds the ball too long and has shat running down his leg everytime he enters the game. I'm not sure Peterman could Start or even Play at Vandy. He's been given multiple opportunities to show even a glimmer of hope and has failed to even show that. (Chatt doesn't count)... Not saying Dobbs is the Savior, but he gives us the best chance to keep it respectable. If Dobbs does nothing more than no turnovers on our side of the 50 it gives our D a chance to at least compete. I don't think Peterman can even do that part right... I think it is pretty obvious Dormady is coming at Christmas with intentions of starting day 1. I believe the coaches believe that as well....

Ok, fine. You wanna split hairs, we'll split hairs.

Peterman first half vs Florida:
4-11, 5 yds, 0td, 2 ints, 2 fumbles, -3 yds rushing. Team offense 24 plays, 6 yds, 0 pts.... yes, that's 1 yard every 6 plays.

Dobbs first half vs Mizzou:
10-16, 96 yds, 0td, 1 int, 1 fumble, 50 yards rushing. Team offense 36 plays, 162 yds, 3 pts

Need help deciphering the math here?

That wasn't Dobbs first game he played. Ala was. That's comparing aplles to Oranges. So you gotta compare every half of every game..How were those first half stats at home vs Vandy missing their full starting Secondary? But like you posted..the important part 3 pts..stats mean NOTHING..Ask Arky and Mizzou the last few weeks.

Yet he tucks and runs 100 times more than Worley when he is in the game. Could have easily thrown into coverage vs ole miss twice but tried to run for the first down. I love that. UGA, he had a great first series until Lane refused the easiest handoff ever. Then Bajakian got funky with the 5 and 7 step drops.

Peterman is worse than dobbs, there is no debate to be had. It is really really easy to see that. Now is dobbs going to light it up..not likely this year. But he is better than peterman and the redshirt is why he hasnt played yet. If worley cant play for more than one game dobbs will be put in to try and salvage a bowl.

Guess you have seen more game video of Peterman than myself or the Coach's. They could use your extra set of eyes! So yes there is no debate comparing 5 games to 3 qtrs.
