It’s obvious at this point that Milton must’ve been promised the start as bait for his transfer. Maybe Hoople looked at what he had and figured desperate times call for desperate measures. Whatever the case, with benefit of hindsight it was a bad coaching decision that probably cost him the win over Pitt, which may well turn out to have been the sixth win he needed for bowl eligibility and fan/recruit buy-in going into 2022. If they don’t win against Missouri, they’ll have to give HB a shot at playing with the 1s in meaningful game time situations just to appease the fan base.

"Hoople" would likely get more of a pass from VN if he played Bailey and lost, than playing His Fav, and them Losing. Honestly, does ANYONE on here believe that Bailey has had a Reasonable shot? Meaningful Playing time? NO. Maybe just Maybe HB is a Gamer, and needs to be in a situation of CONFIDENCE in himself and from the Coach.

I like to call our playbook: Yancey Go Long.
Yancey is my dog and when I take tennis ball out to the field he gets all worked up. I then yell, “Yancey go long.” He takes off like he is on fire and I overthrow him by ten or more yards. He gets the ball and come right back. He has never caught the ball in stride. Sometimes he gets a random stick and I have chase him but he never gets more than a few yards away before I run him down. Either way we are in third down territory every 30-35 seconds. Loads of fun and All That Hype.
Charge on!!!

I sure as heck hope the coaching staff never make decisions based on fan opinions. We don’t Java a freaking clue!

None of these 3 QBs are world beaters. Take a look at the SEC and it’s possible one of them starts for Vandy and South Carolina. But no one else.

This is not a good roster. I’ve said there was a 90% chance we win between 5 to 7 games. That’s still where we are.

Hooker's #4 QBR in the SEC so is that a valid claim?

Milton needs to learn how to have touch on the ball...He throws through people...I really don't think he knows how strong he is...Big dude with a lot of muscle...I really think he can get better for the future.

It was a glorified practice. You can't take anything away from a situation like that. Meaningless. How many years times have we seen some back up post huge numbers and yet never make the field during the season? Wasn't Young also annointed a "beast" that couldn't be blocked? Had to pull him so we could actually run the offense? What's he done in the games he has played in? Didn't we hear that Milton was the QB firing lasers and hitting receivers all over the field in practice? A guy tailor made for this offense? What does he look like so far? Spring practice? Gimme a break.

I don’t disagree. I think it’s like johnwardforever posted above that they will get more of a pass by doing fan service. If they lose this week, the focus will switch from bowl eligibility to job protection.

Spring game means HB is third string. Not first or second . Obviously he is not that good. It’s ok he will be fine . Life goes on.

I know it don't matter much, but if you go back and watch this game. HB and BM looked better then Hooker, I thought both of them did a great job of running the team on offense.
And then here's Milton starting the first game, ?????? , why would this guy get the nod and only been here a few weeks???????
Even now, Hooker looks better then Milton ( WHY ) Hooker is doing a great job at this point. BUT after BM transferred Milton and Hooker must be getting all of the first rep's at practice.
Does HB have any chance of getting an fair look at least, at any point this year. At least he has stayed and competed for a chance, does this count for anything ????? Milton even goes in after Hooker gets hurt and he's not at 100% ??????
Yes. They got equal reps in the spring and he left spring #3 behind Hooker and Maurer. Milton was added. Bailey passed Maurer. Maurer quit... and Bailey was/is still 3rd. About 2 1/2 or 3 weeks before the first game Milton started getting the starter's share of #1 reps. By the testimony of everyone who observed practice and has hinted/spoken about it since... Milton didn't just win the competition... he was WAY ahead.

It has not translated to game day. That happens. Hooker has been able to get it done on game day after beating Bailey out for the #2 job. Disappointingly, Bailey to this point hasn't passed Milton for the #2 job... and that ALWAYS has more to do with what a guy is NOT doing well than the other guy. Milton hasn't thrown it well. He still gives you a run option. Apparently Bailey hasn't impressed throwing the ball in practice... and doesn't give you much help in the run game.

As for Spring, the team was divided into a #1 O and D made up of guys who would have been in the starting rotation at that point then a #2 O and D made up back ups and scout team players. ALL of Hooker's snaps came against the #1 D. He took about half the #1 drives. Maurer and Bailey split the others. MOST of Bailey's numbers came against scout team players. The level of competition was WAY lower.

I'm not bashing Hooker at all, I think he is doing a great job so far but the 1 and 2 QB's are not passing the ball very well and it is hurting our offense. " I'm NO COACH JUST A FAN "
Really? Hooker isn't passing the ball well? He's 4th in the SEC in QBR. He's 5th in yards per attempt. He's thrown 7 TD's vs one INT. He's completing about 66% of his throws and is 5th in yds/att.... including some key drops. Others might add to the list but I've seen him throw two truly "bad balls" this year. One was the INT and the other was the overthrow of Warren last week.

and I'm just asking if anyone else see's what I see, and we might not matter much on opinions but I care about my team as a fan.
The problem isn't what you "see" so much as what you don't. There's an old parable about blind men and an elephant. One grabs the trunk and declares it a hose... another a tusk and declares it a sword... another an ear and declares it a fan... another the tail and declares it a rope.

You have seen what Bailey has done in a VERY limited context. You have not seen what the coaches have seen. You have not seen what he's done in direct comparison and competition with the others.

I hope he's great when he gets his shot. So far, he has not earned it.

So that brings me to wonder ( what does this coaching staff know ) ????? We will see what they know by the end of this year or we will be wondering what if AGAIN.
There's always next year.

P.S This is why people are wanting to see HB get his SHOT at QB. If you see anything different, please fill free to let me have it !!!!!!!!
You don't have to wonder. They've seen Bailey in close to 100 practices by now, in the QB room, in the weight room, in leadership opportunities with team mates, etc. They have a ton more information than we do.

There is a danger that a guy will be a practice All American then flop on game day. JG did it for 5 years. Milton looks like he might fall in that group. There is VERY little chance a guy isn't good in practice then shines on game day... that's especially true of the QB. If he isn't good in practice then among other things he can't be in sync with receivers on gameday. They don't know what to expect.

Dumb post.

Heupel has successfully coached QB's. That won't save him from a QB who is great in practice but flops on game day. Everyone who was allowed to observe practices said that the competition at QB wasn't close. Milton won it. NO ONE with that kind of access has suggested that HB isn't exactly where he should be.

You get playing time when you earn it in practice. Apparently he hasn't. Maybe he will. But this conspiracy theory that somehow he's great and Heupel refuses to see it... is ridiculous.

Bailey got a chance and they let him run the O vs TTU. He was 3/7 for 16 yards. I'm not ready to write him off because of that... but I see no good reason to believe he's better than #3 right now.

Job protection??? Unless this turns into a compete disaster, then Heupel is safe through the 2025 season.

Ok , thanks for all the answer's, now, while we are on the subject, Hooker is the best one right now, I agree " WHY " is Milton still # 1 , last Q

HB isn't fast enough for this offense. Just the way it is. He was here before Heupel got here. And unfortunately he doesn't fit his system. We need a dual threat QB. A Vick type of QB. A Lamar Jackson type for the kids in here who don't know Vick.
