The reason Nico is catching sooooo much flack from all coaches and media alike is because he ROYALLY screwed us. The timing was atrocious. It makes no sense for a good QB to risk coming to us with ALL the hoops they’d have to go through. Other schools are happy to give their proven guy a raise because they can’t afford to be in the situation we are in. We can offer someone Nico $ but the Angeli kid is they type of QB we are going to be stuck with. We would need to wayyyyyyyy overpay for someone like Alt or Hoover, and there’s a huge risk in doing that. It’s not Heup’s fault or Spyre’s fault. It’s 100% on Nico/fam. The timing is about as bad as it could have been.

A lot of people hating on Angeli, but he ain't bad. Honestly, if he was our QB last year, I bet we would have still made the playoffs.

All you needed was a decent game managing QB. The running game and defense did all the work.

Do you think Angeli would have pissed down his leg like Nico did in the Arkansas game?

You guys are setting yourselves up to be disappointed and then have an excuse to blame the coaches.

What starting QB at a decent program is going to move, on short notice, leaving friends, teammates, classes, girlfriends, etc, immediately after spring ball? To go to a new team, learn a new playbook, start new classes, etc?

Most of the guys being mentioned are entrenched and compensated pretty decently. Even if one were willing, we would need to overpay.

Then we are in a situation where we can’t afford to not play him even if he’s bad, slow to learn, distracted, unhappy, whatever.

On top of that, he is now the highest paid guy on the team which will cause issues and we may lose guys.

I’d roll with somebody like Angeli where we won’t need to overspend and we can have a real competition.

There is a real risk of missing out on him too while we hope for a unicorn, and then the chance of having to start the season with 2 QBs becomes real.

I have no doubt that CJH and company would love to have any of these starting QBs mentioned, and we can certainly afford to, but there is more to it than that.

Despite what is being said here, in our current situation, Angeli seems like a very solid option. He’s only got a year, is smart enough to learn the playbook, has some experience, and most importantly, is actually in the portal.

I agree. Not to mention, it possibly jeopardizes their NFL opportunities. Hard to ask someone to learn a new scheme in what may be a year which they are playing for their future.

If Nico was a snake for trying to hold out, then it's just as snake-like to try poaching another P4 starter who isn’t IN the portal.

Agreed. We should not need an NFL quarterback to beat Syracuse, Arkansas, and Florida. I feel very good about our OL. Think we'll run it down their throats. And Banks STILL hasn't given us a legitimate reason to be worried about his defense. All he's done is make the defense better each and every year he's been here.

If it is Angeli, and I hope it's not, he and Merk can battle it out for the job in fall camp. If there's no clear starter I'd play them both early and see if anyone takes a step forward. I hope that's not the case though.

There's this thing now called NIL and it pays players... you wouldn't believe how many really good players jump into what is called a portal and will go just about ANYWHERE, to any team, for more money... There's a saying that money talks... Nico left and if Barnes hasn't already spent it all, we should have a sizeable amount left in the account to draw some experienced talent.

Money alone won’t get us a top WR. They only go where they know a good QB will be slinging it. We don’t even know who that is going to be.

Have you seen what's happened the last two years with NIL and the portal? On Wednesday they said 5,000 players entered the portal... so NONE of the WR's want to come to a power 5 team with what we have to offer, but are still finding a QB, even though we probably have two already that could play for quite a few teams already?...
